Reasons for choosing the profession of a teacher determine motivation for future work, commitment to the workplace, and good relationship with students. The author of the article focuses on the reasons for choosing teaching as a career path by students of art universities. The aim of the study was to determine the factors behind the choice made by aspiring artists. Although students of art schools point out various reasons for choosing a teaching profession, they are always oriented towards lifelong development. It results from the unique type of education at music schools and close relationship between teachers and students there.

Motywy wyboru zawodu nauczyciela, podobnie jak pozytywna selekcja do zawodu, są czynnikami decydującymi o motywacji do pracy, zaangażowaniu w nią oraz osiąganiu efektów w pracy z uczniem. W artykule skoncentrowano się na motywach wyboru kształcenia do zawodu nauczyciela studentów uczelni artystycznej. Celem badań było określenie kategorii motywów wyboru zawodu nauczyciela przez artystów oraz czynników warunkujących wybór. Z przeprowadzonych badań wynika, że studenci uczelni artystycznej mimo zróżnicowanych motywów wyboru zawodu nauczyciela nastawieni są na całożyciowy rozwój, co wynika ze specyfiki kształcenia w szkole muzycznej oraz relacji między nauczycielem i uczniem.

W artykule zarysowana została historia Biblioteki ASP w Katowicach, od czasów powstania jej zalążka, czyli Biblioteki Państwowej Szkoły Sztuk Plastycznych po Bibliotekę Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Katowicach. Przedstawiono specyfikę biblioteki jako jednostki w strukturze uczelni artystycznej. Nakreślono obraz środowiska czytelniczego oraz rodzaj usług adresownych do jej użytkowników. Prześledzono rozwój infrastruktury biblioteki, który miał niebagatelne znaczenie w zwiększaniu atrakcyjności biblioteki. Podnoszenie standardów bibliotecznych przekształciło i rozwinęło funkcje biblioteki, która służy czytelnikom nie tylko jako miejsce ich pracy indywidualnej, ale staje się też miejscem spotkań oraz wymiany poglądów.

The article outlines the history of the Library of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, from the time of its creation – the collection of books of the State School of Fine Arts – to the library of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. The specificity of the library as a unit within the art school is presented. The picture of the reading environment and the type of services that attract patrons is outlined. The development of the library infrastructure, which has been of great importance in increasing the appeal of the library, was traced. Raising its standards has transformed and developed the functions of the library, which not only serves readers for the purpose of their own work, but is also a place for meetings and exchange of views.
