This article is focused on an overlooked group of place names defined by the author as technotoponyms, the thematic urbanonyms of urban innovative districts, a new form of the spatial organization of the contemporary cityscape. The study aims to identify the characteristics of technotoponyms’ formation and their most common features on the examples of various innovative districts worldwide. In theoretical, conceptual, and methodological terms, this short communication is based on critical toponymic and traditional onomastic approaches to analyze technotoponyms using the method of mini-cases on the example of the Innovation District in the Kitchener-Waterloo agglomeration (Canada). It is also driven by data from cartographic and online resources, as well as the author’s long-term in situ observations of the dynamics of innovative districts and their spatial-onomastic elements in Canadian cities. As a result, a set of the most popular generic terms in the composition of these multi-component names and their essential “innovative” and “technological” motivational themes were identified. The study reveals that technotoponymic clusters cover various classes of urbanonyms, including hodonyms, ecodomonyms, urban choronyms, and the names of public transportation stops. Due to the global nature of this process, the study indicates that technotoponymy is used by hi-tech corporate businesses and city authorities in the neoliberal production of futuristic dehumanized urban places. The article concludes with a point regarding the future perspectives and significant interdisciplinary potential of studying technotoponyms as the onomastic segment of the urban space in innovation districts, smart cities, and its elements.

Tento článek je zaměřen na přehlíženou skupinu místních jmen definovaných autorem jako technotoponyma, tematická urbanonyma městských inovativních čtvrtí, které jsou novou formou prostorového uspořádání současné městské krajiny. Cílem studie je identifikovat charakteristiky vzniku technotoponym a jejich nejčastější rysy na příkladech různých inovativních čtvrtí po celém světě. Po teoretické, koncepční a metodologické stránce je tato práce založena na kritických toponomastických a tradičních onomastických přístupech k analýze technotoponym pomocí metody případové studie na příkladu Innovation District v aglomeraci Kitchener-Waterloo (Kanada). Vychází také z dat z kartografických a online zdrojů a také z autorova dlouhodobého pozorování in situ dynamiky inovativních čtvrtí a jejich prostorově-onymických prvků v kanadských městech. V důsledku toho byl identifikován soubor nejoblíbenějších generických termínů ve složení těchto vícesložkových názvů a jejich klíčová „inovativní“ a „technologická“ motivační témata. Studie odhaluje, že technotoponymické shluky pokrývají různé třídy urbanonym, včetně hodonym, ekodomonym, městských choronym a názvů zastávek veřejné dopravy. Vzhledem ke globální povaze tohoto procesu studie naznačuje, že techno-toponymii využívají hi-tech korporátní podniky a městské úřady při neoliberální produkci futuristických dehumanizovaných městských prostor. Článek uzavírá bod týkající se budoucích perspektiv a významného interdisciplinárního potenciálu studia technotoponym jako onomastického segmentu městského prostoru v inovativních čtvrtích, chytrých městech a jejich prvcích.
