Szczególnym kontekstem głoszenia krzyża Chrystusowego są kazania pasyjne na temat ostatnich siedmiu słów Jezusa wypowiedzianych na krzyżu. Tego zadania wielokrotnie podejmował się F.J. Sheen na łamach audycji „The Catholic Hour”, w których przemawiał do swoich słuchaczy przez ponad 20 lat. Kapłan, poza interpretacją samych słów Jezusa, omawiał m.in. życie Matki Bożej, wyjaśniał słuchaczom Mszę Świętą, rozważał prośby z modlitwy „Ojcze Nasz”, omawiał cnoty, grzechy główne, błogosławieństwa Jezusa oraz kierował rozważania, do konkretnych grup osób, które wyrzuciły Boga z życia. W artykule zostało przedstawione jego nauczanie w kontekście wyjaśniania prawd Bożych i nauczania o wierze, oraz poznawania kim jest człowiek ze wskazaniem na zagadnienia moralne.

The author presents the details of the editorial issues concerning the reform of the Sea-son of Lent, which is the time of preparation for Easter. Herein are presented the essential changes that concern the structure, terminology, and the character of this time. The editorial works on the Season of Lent are focused on two particular issues: the exact composition of both the structure and the length as well as the description of its baptismal and penal charac-ter.

A specific context for the preaching about the cross of Christ are the sermons based on the Christ’s Seven Last Words. On many occasions, Fulton J. Sheen undertook a similar mission in his radio addresses broadcasted for over twenty years in the radio program “The Catholic Hour”. This famous preacher, not only meditated, interpreted and preached on the words of Christ, but he also deliberated on the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary, explained different parts of the Holy Mass and the meaning of the particular words of the “Our Father”. He deliberated on the virtues and the capital sins, put some new light on the blessings of Jesus, and often directed his thought-provoking meditative reflections to those listeners, who turned away from God. The article presents Sheen’s teaching that it is based on the explanation of God’s truths, an individual’s search for meaning, with emphasis on morals.
