While his staying at the royal court in Ferrara in the 40s of the 16th century Jan Radziwiłł received as a gift from Hercules II d’Este anonymous manuscript of Italian works concerning the issue of the art of guns. In view of the excitation greater interest in the military technical of literature in the educated part of the noble people and thus the inaugurations on Polish land controversy around the science of guns of affair, probably after returning to the country he translated the manuscript into Polish, redrafted and entitled O tajemnicach puszkarskich, każdemu rycerskiemu człowiekowi potrzebnych (Vilnius 1547 [?]). The objective of the following paper is to present the history of the original old Polish technical manual on the margins of discourse in the Polish and European circles writing about the case of the guns of affair.

Podczas pobytu na dworze książęcym w Ferrarze w latach 40. XVI w. Jan Radziwiłł otrzymał w darze od Herkulesa II d’Este anonimowy rękopis włoskiego dziełka poruszającego zagadnienia z dziedziny sztuki puszkarskiej. Z myślą o wzbudzeniu w wykształconej części braci szlacheckiej większego zainteresowania wojskową literaturą techniczną i tym samym zainaugurowania na gruncie polskim polemiki wokół nauk puszkarskich, najprawdopodobniej już po powrocie do kraju manuskrypt ten został przez niego przetłumaczony na język polski, przeredagowany i zatytułowany O tajemnicach puszkarskich, każdemu rycerskiemu człowiekowi potrzebnych (Wilno 1547 [?]). Zamierzeniem tego artykułu jest prezentacja historii pierwowzoru staropolskiego podręcznika technicznego na marginesie dyskusji prowadzonej w polskich i europejskich kręgach piśmienniczych na temat sprawy puszkarskiej.
