Obecnie przez eutanazję najczęściej rozumie się doprowadzenie do dobrej śmierci — zabójstwo z litości, gdzie osoba A kończy życie osoby B, ze względu na dobro B. Takie rozumienie eutanazji podkreśla dwie istotne cechy tego rodzaju aktów. Po pierwsze — zakłada rozmyślne pozbawienie życia innego człowieka; po drugie — odbiera się mu je ze względu na dobro osoby, która o to prosi — zazwyczaj dlatego, że cierpi ona na nieuleczalną lub śmiertelną chorobę. Odróżnia to eutanazję od większości innych form odbierania życia.

Currently, the most common euthanasia is meant to bring good death — murder of mercy, where person A ends life person B due to good B. Th is understanding of euthanasia highlights two important features of this type of legislation. First of all — involves the deliberate deprivation of life of another man, and second — it takes to him for the good of the person who asks for it — usually because he is suff ering from an incurable or terminal illness. Euthanasia is distinguished from most other forms of taking life.
