Currently, innovation plays a significant role in all sectors of economy. It exerts substantial influence on socio-economic development both in the micro and macro scale. Innovation affects the growth of economy, the economic condition and competitiveness of enterprises. It also affects people’s living conditions and overall quality of life. Innovation denotes the capacity of enterprises and whole economy to develop and use knowledge in solutions which streamline economic functioning. The growth of innovativeness is possible thanks to the construction of national infrastructure to the extent that permits effective implementation of innovation processes and their inclusion in economic practice, as well as fostering of enterprise among the public. At present, increased innovation in Polish enterprises is associated with the realisation of innovation policy, the aim of which is to bridge the gap between Poland and the most innovative EU countries in terms of expenditure for RD, exports of high-tech goods, increased level of education and the number of patent submittals.
