Maciej Szczepański was one of the most outstanding Polish booksellers of the Enlightenment period, who conducted his activity in Warsaw in the years 1779-1825. He was a bookbinder, bookseller and publisher. He contributed to the propagation of the book among a wide audience, conducting various advertisements in the Warsaw press and publishing catalogs of Polish and foreign books. M. Szczepański also took an active part in the social, political and cultural life of Warsaw. Szczepański was a well-known and respected citizen of the city of Warsaw.
