The growing popularity of the ideas of transhumanists prompts philosophical reflection on this current of contemporary thought. Hava Tirosh-Samuelson in numerous publications analyzed the historical context of transhumanism and the significance of its most important theses. She undertook research on issues such as human nature, life extention, cyber-immortality, happiness, and religious aspects. Her fundamentally critical opinion about transhumanism is supported by sound arguments. The presented analyzes are certainly not final – they can inspire and encourage further research.

In this article I would like to draw attention to the need for proper IT preparation of the future teacher since in the changing reality pupils more often use both computer and also other multime-dia appliances. That is why it is essential to show them what possibilities of these appliances are to assist the process of teaching and learning itself.

Pascal’s Wager is one of those philosophical issues which keep provoke reflection and searching for their new interpretations. It might be claimed that the argument from the well-known fragment of Pensées draws the reader’s attention first of all thanks to radicalism of its ultimate conclusion (“The faith in God is the only rational human attitude”). For more than 300 years new arguments for and against the premises, the argument and the conclusion of the wager have been formulated. Recently a strong trend towards formulating new arguments for or against God’s existence or rationality of theism, which make a reference to Pascal’s Wager, might be observed. One of the arguments made is the Atheist’s Wager, usually ascribed to Michael Martin, although its sources might be found in some of ancient philosophers. This argument, just as the one by Pascal, analyses the consequences of two opposite attitudes towards God’s existence. However, the conclusion of Atheist’s Wager (“Atheism is more rational than theism”) is just opposite to the one of Pascal’s argument. It is important to notice that there are various variants of Atheist’s Wager in which different aspects of the problem of rationality of theism and atheism are emphasized.

Transhumanism offers a vision of the evolution of human nature through technological development, culminating in the posthuman. He or she is to achieve not only an unimaginably high intellectual level and the possibility of cyber-immortality, but also to be maximally happy. The aim of the presented research was an attempt to clarify the not entirely clear idea of the posthuman and to critically address the prospects of his or her happy existence.

Transhumanizm przedstawia wizję ewolucji natury ludzkiej. Ewolucja ta dokona się za sprawą rozwoju technologicznego. Jej zwieńczeniem będzie postczłowiek, który ma osiągnąć nie tylko niewyobrażalnie wysoki poziom intelektualny i możliwość cybernieśmiertelności, ale także uzyskać maksymalne szczęście. Celem przedstawionych badań była próba sprecyzowania nie całkiem klarownej idei postczłowieka oraz krytyczne odniesienie się do perspektyw jego szczęśliwej egzystencji.

Jedną z najważniejszych idei transhumanizmu jest zamiar radykalnego przedłużenia ludzkiego życia, a ostatecznym celem – całkowite pokonanie śmierci. Ma się to dokonać za sprawą transferu umysłu, a więc przeniesienia całego wyposażenia jednostki w wymiar cyfrowy. Postczłowiekowi, niezależnemu od biologicznego ciała, będzie wówczas przysługiwać możliwość cybernieśmiertelności. Perspektywa ta budzi wiele wątpliwości. W artykule przedstawiona jest analiza filozoficznych podstaw transhumanistycznego immortalizmu. Okazuje się, że bazuje on na jednym ze współczesnych wariantów materializmu: funkcjonalizmie obliczeniowym – problematycznej, redukcjonistycznej ­koncepcji kognitywistycznej.
