One of the central figures of the Italian national movement, Alessandro Manzoni, draws the attention of some Croatian speaking intellectuals, mainly writers and scholars, who recognized the importance of his literary works as well as his studies. The paper is a survey of Croatian translations of some of Manzoni’s most important poems as well as critical studies in his literary and scientific works. The paper also discusses the importance of Manzoni’s Relazione sulla lingua … published in 1868 in a Zadar newspaper shortly after it had been presented to the Italian Minister of Public Education.
