Using August Wilhelm Schlegel’s definition of the short story and Tvetan Todorov’s concept of the fantastic, the essay presents three Romantic fantasy short stories. The author focuses on the representation of the body and corporeality. The works analyzed attempt to challenge the post-Enlightenment materialistic perspective and redefine the body and soul dichotomy. The essay discusses three models of presenting the body in the selected short stories. The first model, in Życie po śmierci [Life after Death] by J. I. Kraszewski, follows the logics of the grotesque and presents the body as not only the object, but also the vehicle of narration. The second model, in Lekarz magnetyczny [The Magnetic Doctor] by Józef Dzierzkowski, indicates the physiognomical understanding of the body as a sign, a call for interpretation. The third model, in Dentysta [The Dentist] by Henryk Rzewuski, involves the process of a radical suspension of the body and soul dichotomy: the body is conceived as pure surface.

Agon: Jacob the Patriarch and Harold Bloom against the empowermentThe paper discusses the question of empowerment in management education and attempts to present internal contradictions of aforementioned concept. The main objection to the empowermet theory in management education here is the fact of concealing fundamental violence that defi nes relations within institution of academy. Removal of the question of confl ict from the concept of empowerment deprives it from real emancipating power. In contrast to empowerment, Harol Bloom’s idea of subjectivity as an agon is presented.

Voicing of obstruents in Old Polish: An analysis of compensatory lengthening

In this paper it is suggested that in the ancestral stages of the system, Polish obstruents were characterized by the presence of an H element responsible for voicelessness instead of an L element, interpreted phonetically as full voicing, postulated for Present-day Polish and other Slavic systems. This claim is made on the basis of a CVCV analysis of Compensatory Lengthening—a process which affected the majority of the Slavic world in the period when particular Slavic languages were evolving from Common Slavic.

Artykuł formułuje tezę, że w początkowych stadiach istnienia języka polskiego spółgłoski zwarte i zwarto-szczelinowe w tym systemie charakteryzowały się obecnością elementu H, odpowiedzialnego za bezdźwięczność, nie zaś elementu L, fonetycznie wyrażanego jako pełna dźwięczność we współczesnej polszczyźnie (i pozostałych językach słowiańskich). Propozycja ta jest oparta na analizie wzdłużenia zastępczego w modelu CVCV – procesu, który można zaobserwować w większości języków słowiańskich w momencie ich wyodrębniania się z języka pra-słowiańskiego.

This analysis of selected novels and short stories by Józef Bogdan Dziekoński – Pająk [ The Spider], Siła woli [ Willpower], Piosnka [ A Simple Song], and Wyzwolenie zapaleńca [ The Liberation of Enthusiast] – shows that they share similar narrative structure based on the interception of messages sent by the narrator to an absent ideal recipient by an eaves-dropping intruder who gradually displaces the original addressee. Working within the framework of a romance story Dziekoński develops a philosophy of desire which accepts incompleteness, contingency and disillusionment. They combine in an affirmation of life and an opposition to morbid phantasies or the idea of irreplaceability of love in the myth of l'amour tristanien.

W tekście podjęto próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie o to, czy we współczesnej prozie kcjonalnej powstały nowe języki opisu Nowej Huty, przeciwstawiające się narracjom socrealistycznym. Analizie poddano trzy teksty: thriller Hanny Sokołowskiej Kosa, nowelę fantastyczną Tajemna historia Nowej Huty Jewgienija T. Olejni- czaka oraz powieść Adama Miklasza Ostatni mecz, opowiadającą o kibicach Hutnika. Utwory rozpatrywano w perspektywie reprezentacji kobiecości (i przypisywania im kreacyjnej siły), paradygmatu romantycznego, relacji między prywatnością a zbiorowością oraz przepisywania na nowo historii o powstaniu Nowej Huty. Omawiane teksty wskazują na kryzys poczucia wspólnoty, utratę zaufania w uniwersalne wartości oraz zwrot ku indywidualizmowi.

Viticulture in Poland has been developing in recent years, and the list of dessert varieties available for cultivation is expanding. However, not all genotypes perform equally well in cultivation in the cool climate of Poland. Both producers and gardeners are looking for proven information about varieties and the possibility of their growing in specific environmental conditions with the best possible effect. To meet these expectations, in the vineyard established in the Experimental Orchard in Dąbrowice (The National Institute of Horticultural Research in Skierniewice), winter hardiness, frost resistance, susceptibility to spring frost and health status of 15 table grape genotypes in the soil and climate conditions of central Poland were assessed. Detailed observations were made in 2019-2021 on plants planted in 2004. It was found that the most winter-hardy and frost-resistant genotypes were 'Alwood', 'New York Muscat', 'Boskoop Glory', 'Einset', and 'Reliance', which are hybrids of Vitis vinifera with Vitis labrusca. The least resistant to low winter temperatures were the cultivars ' Frumoasa Albae', 'Muskat Letni' and 'Palatina' created in the multi-stage interspecific cross-breeding. Genotypes with a high content of Vitis amurensis genes, such as 'Agat Doński' and 'Kristaly', were most often damaged by spring frosts, but they had high regenerative abilities. ‘Swenson Red’ was most susceptible to downy mildew and powdery mildew, while ‘Reliance’ and ‘Einset’ were most susceptible to gray mold.

Uprawa winorośli w Polsce w ostatnich latach zyskuje na znaczeniu, a asortyment dostępnych na rynku odmian deserowych jest coraz szerszy. Jednak nie wszystkie genotypy jednakowo dobrze sprawdzają się w chłodnym klimacie Polski. Zarówno producenci jak i  działkowicze, poszukują sprawdzonych informacji o odmianach i możliwości ich uprawy w określonych warunkach środowiskowych z jak najlepszym skutkiem. Wychodząc naprzeciw tym oczekiwaniom, w winnicy założonej w Sadzie Doświadczalnym w Dąbrowicach (Instytut Ogrodnictwa-PIB w Skierniewicach) przeprowadzono badania, których celem była ocena zimotrwałości, mrozoodporności, podatności na przymrozki i zdrowotności 15 genotypów winorośli deserowej w warunkach klimatyczno-glebowych Polski Centralnej. Szczegółowe obserwacje wykonywano w latach 2019-2021 na krzewach posadzonych w 2004 roku. Najbardziej zimotrwałymi i mrozoodpornymi genotypami okazały się 'Alwood', 'New York Muscat', 'Boskoop Glory', 'Einset' i 'Reliance', które są mieszańcami Vitis vinifera z Vitis labrusca, a najmniej wytrzymałymi na niskie temperatury panujące zimą były odmiany 'Frumoasa Albae', 'Muskat Letni' i 'Palatina' powstałe w procesie złożonego krzyżowania międzygatunkowego. Genotypy z dużą domieszką Vitis amurensis, jak 'Agat Doński' i 'Kristaly' były najczęściej uszkadzane przez przymrozki wiosenne, ale jednocześnie miały wysokie właściwości regeneracyjne. Najbardziej podatna na mączniaka rzekomego i mączniaka prawdziwego była odmiana 'Swenson Red', natomiast na szarą pleśń - 'Reliance' i 'Einset'.
