Recenzja omawia trzy książki poświęcone najnowszym dyskusjom wokół spuścizny polskiego i wschodnioeuropejskiego strukturalizmu. Prace te – zajmujące się zarówno jego historią, jak i założeniami metody oraz najwybitniejszymi reprezentantami – łączy jedna teza. Jest to przekonanie o nadal inspirującej (i wciąż odkrywanej na nowo) heterogeniczności tego kierunku w badaniach literackich.

The review discusses three books on the newest debates on the legacy of Polish and Eastern European structuralism. The papers, taking up both its history, assumptions of the method, and its most outstanding representatives, are linked by one thesis, namely a conviction about a still inspiring (and still rediscovered) heterogeneity of this literary research mode of analysis.

Recenzja prezentuje założenia metodologiczne oraz zakres problemowy pracy Konrada Nicińskiego "W poszukiwaniu nowego człowieka. Trzy projekty formacyjne w kulturze polskiej lat 1905–1930". W polskich badaniach nad literaturą przełomu wieków temat ten nie stanowi często przywoływanego kontekstu. Jak przekonująco udowadnia Niciński – niesłusznie. Walorem recenzowanej książki jest ponadto omówienie wskazanego zagadnienia na przykładzie wybitnych i charyzmatycznych twórców początku XX w.: Witkacego, Tadeusza Micińskiego oraz Mieczysława Limanowskiego.

The review presents the methodological assumptions and the scope of problems of Konrad Niciński’s work “W poszukiwaniu nowego człowieka. Trzy projekty formacyjne w kulturze polskiej lat 1905–1930 (In Search of a New Man. Three Formative Projects of Polish Culture 1905–1930).” The subject is not a frequently recalled research context for Polish literature of the turn of the 19th and 20th c. which, as Niciński convincingly proves, is unjustified. The value of the book also lies in the description of the problem in question as based on the examples of eminent and charismatic authors of the beginning of the 20th century, namely Witkacy, Tadeusz Miciński, and Mieczysław Limanowski.

Emotions have become an increasingly valuable element of reading studies, literary theory and empirical research on reader response. Here, I discuss some new issues in the field of affective studies on literary reading. This article is an overview of some main consequences of digital revolution (e.g. redefinition of reading, reading habits, and reading experiential values). These cultural changes challenge the classroom teaching of literature. I suggest, that the new media and technologies have a deep impact on the traditionally conceptualized ideas of “reader response”, “emotional involvement”, since they activate new forms of reading experiences and new modes for expressing them. The socially-based and interactive environment has been transforming the ways people (young readers) engage in reading texts and this seems to be a newly emerging object of research for the empirical literary studies on reader response.
