The article is an attempt to describe the phenomenon of ‘knowledge reconstruction' meant as understanding a sender's text by a receiver. Texts excerpted from two well-known publications on economics by P. Kotler, P. Samuelson and W. Nordhaus and their Polish and Russian translations served as empirical material for the study. The research was based on analysis of so-called conceptual (semantic) network in the original text and its transfer in translated texts. The author distinguishes complete transfer (complete ‘mapping') or modification (extended or narrowed network). The other part of the research is the problem of content transformation in target-language text. The author finds several forms of content transformation (content amplification, content simplification and content destruction), exemplified by particular sentences. Statistical data on the examined texts is given in conclusion to the article.
