The article presents the current state of evolutionary economics against the backdrop of changes related to the potential use of the achievements of other social sciences, in particular psychology, as well as dynamically developing neuroscience. The article suggests a synthesis of evolutionary and behavioural economics concepts as a logical consequence of evolutionary cooperation processes in social sciences. Interdisciplinary initiatives create new perspectives on generation synergy effects for all participants. Contemporary evolutionary economists present the nature of ongoing innovation-driven economic change as a long evolutionary process. The main creator of the econosphere as a global system is a man–entrepreneur who is also the result of evolutionary processes. For this reason evolutionary economics should take into account the results of behavioural economics’ research based on modern psychology and neuroscience. The cornerstone of evolutionary and behavioural economics synthesis are the theories of Adam Smith which should be regarded as his holistic intellectual heritage.

The basic aim of the article is to present the specificity and complexity of strategic management using the paradox concept. Nowadays, when globalization, innovations, hypercompetition, and social demands are creating more and more dynamic and complicated business environments, the idea of paradox is becoming an important research tool to understand and manage modern organizations. The concept of paradox as a metatheoretical perspective offers a solid research ground for management sciences, allowing for a deeper understanding of the structure, relations, and dynamics of surrounding organizational tensions, while enriching the existing theories and theory processes. On the basis of a literature review, an original taxonomy of paradoxes in strategic management was presented.

Podstawowym celem artykułu jest przedstawienie specyfiki i złożoności zarządzania strategicznego za pomocą koncepcji paradoksu. Dziś, gdy globalizacja, innowacje, hiperkonkurencja i wymagania społeczne tworzą coraz bardziej dynamiczne i skomplikowane środowisko, paradoks staje się ważnym narzędziem badawczym do zrozumienia współczesnych organizacji i zarządzania nimi. Paradoks jako metateoretyczna perspektywa wnosi do nauk o zarządzaniu solidny aparat badawczy, umożliwiający głębsze zrozumienie konstrukcji, relacji i dynamiki występujących w otoczeniu napięć organizacyjnych, wzbogacając jednocześnie istniejące teorie i procesy teoretyzowania. Na podstawie przeglądu literatury przedmiotu przedstawiona została autorska taksonomia paradoksów związanych z zarządzaniem strategicznym.

The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked a global economic crisis. Different economies have been hit by the effects of this crisis to varying degrees. The aim of the article is to answer the question: what are the consequences of the pandemic in individual European Union countries in terms of three basic indicators describing the economic situation? These indicators are: the rate of increase/decrease of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the unemployment rate and the budget balance. The period of analysis included in the article is 2019 (pre-pandemic year), 2020 and 2021 (two pandemic years). The article proposes three approaches to building a ranking arranging European Union countries according to the criterion of the degree to which they coped with the effects of the pandemic crisis in the three mentioned areas. The results obtained in the individual rankings differ from each other, which can be interpreted as the lack of clear relative winners and losers of the pandemic. In addition, on the basis of the three specified approaches, a meta-ranking was prepared, including the findings of these rankings. The article ends with comments on the prospects for the development of the economic situation of the European Union countries in the post-pandemic future.
