In order to stop the digital exclusion of the Polish society, it is vital to invest in people and educational systems. It is education what prepares citizens who are to inform, communicate and learn with the use of ICT. Therefore it is important to acquire ICT skills in the formal, non-formal and informal way. The article attempts to answer the following research problems: Which are the key skills necessary to live in the information society? How is ICT used in schools in Europe? What supports the development of adult computer education in the local communities?

A changing world forces the use of ICT in various aspects of social life and everyday including: learning in the workplace, accessing to information and knowledge (including open educational resources). The extensive use of information technology gives opportunities for the use of the ever-changing form of information and ways to use the data. Statistical data cited in the article show still the high level of digital literacy in Poland which may be related to the digital exclusion of citizens. Therefore, the initiatives, educational activities (even the educational EU projects) aimed at improving the competences in order to fully participate in today's information society are highly needed

Przytaczane w artykule dane świadczą o niskim w porównaniu z innymi krajami UE wskaźniku rozwoju kompetencji cyfrowych Polaków, co w efekcie może prowa-dzić do wykluczenia cyfrowego (zwłaszcza osób dorosłych). Dlatego potrzebne są inicjatywy, działania edukacyjne (choćby w formie realizowanych projektów) ukierunkowane na podniesienie kompetencji tak, by w pełni funkcjonować w dzisiejszym społeczeństwie informacyjnym. Posiadanie wysokich umiejętności informatycznych ułatwia poruszanie się w świecie cyfrowym oraz zwiększa potencjalne korzyści wynikające z postępu technicznego.

The development of knowledge-based society due to, among others, intellectualization and automation of work processes, globalization, scientific and technological revolution, influence the structure of the professional activities and skills. The widespread use of information and communication technologies results in new forms of employment enabling work from home as well as increasing the chances of people disadvantaged at the labour market in getting the employment in areas related to telework. Employers use the modern forms of employment more often, because they allow to reduce labour costs and increase flexibility to perform professional tasks. Work flexibility is one of the elements relating to modernization of the organization of work and employment.

W obecnym świecie szerokie zastosowanie technologii informacyjno-komunika-cyjnych skutkuje m.in. nowymi formami zatrudnienia. Elastyczność pracy jest jednym z elementów wpływających na modernizację organizacji pracy i rozwój nowych form zatrudnienia. Elastyczne formy zatrudnienia (ang. flexible forms of employment, EFZ) związa-ne są z elastycznością czasu i miejsca pracy, a co z a tym idzie z formą stosunku pracy (najczęściej umowa cywilnoprawna), zakresem pracy, wynagrodzeniem (najczęściej charakter zadaniowy). Zmniejszenie dyspozycyjności zawodowej pracownika spowo-dowane różnymi zdarzeniami (rodzinnymi, zdrowotnymi) nie musi obniżać jego ak-tywności w życiu zawodowym. Dzięki zastosowaniu technologii informacyjno-komu-nikacyjnych miejsce pracy można „zabrać” do domu. Oczywiście nie dotyczy to wszystkich stanowisk pracy, a głównie tych, w przypadku których możemy połączyć pracę zawodową z wykonywaniem innych obowiązków. Adresatami takiej formy zatrudnienia są osoby, które z różnych przyczyn nie mogą pracować na pełnym etacie (m.in.: osoby niepełnosprawne, rodzice małych dzieci).
