The article interprets the book Muzułmanie, islam i ja [Muslims, Islam and Me] by Michał Christian, which is an account of his stay in Algeria, where he worked as a specialist in the repair of construction machinery in the late eighties. While the main reason for Christian’s trip was the desire to join his wife – Aleksandra Kasznik-Christian, history professor and scholar working in North Africa – the main impulse to write the account came from the September 11 attacks and Oriana Fallaci’s books. The article aims to deconstruct the Orientalist preconceptions underlying Christian’s vision of Islam and relations with Muslims.

In his novel “L’effacement”, published in 2016, Samir Toumi presented the image of the generation born after Algeria’s independence on the example of the main character. It is a generation condemned to live in the shadow of the great parents who fought in the Algerian War against France. “L’effacement” is an interesting example of the development of the genre which is récit de filiation. The aim of the article is to describe the difficult filiation in the novel by Toumi: the relationship of children with parents disturbed by the unlimited appetite for power in the previous generation.

This article describes Yasmina Khadra’s autobiographical work composed of two books: "L’écrivain" and "L’imposture des mots" and its reception in France. The main purpose of this study was to establish the literary genre of these books, which implies determining whether Khandra’s work represents an autobiography or an autofiction with reference to P. Lejeune’s and V. Colonna’s theoretical studies. The dividing line between two genres in Khandra’s works refl ects his inner split between being either a solder or a writer. The presentation will also help to understand the controversy resulting from Khandra’s participation in Algerian civil war. Moreover the analysis is related to modern Algerian history.
