The article presents a comparative analysis of food names included in Ukrainian and Polish idioms. Some of them are common to both languages, while some are characteristic of just one nation. Furthermore, the meanings of various idioms are shared which can be explained by a common history and culture. Differences show the national character of idioms.

Food, as one of the most important human activities, also has a huge impact on the sphere of culture and language. The daily preparation of meals can become a typical rite, for example, for a nation, but it is also a source of idiom formation. The article presents a comparative analysis of stylistic qualifiers which are used to designate idioms containing components associated with food in Ukrainian and Polish phraseology.

The report presents a summary of events and speeches that took place during the International Scientifi c Conference “Christian Heritage of Poles and Ukrainians – Word and Art” dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Department of Ukrainian Studies of the University of Warsaw. The papers presented during the conference were briefl y discussed and the most important elements of each were highlighted in the report. University affi liation as well as the titles of the speeches are included next to each author’s name. The organizational structure of the conference was mapped thus the division into sections and panels was retained.
