In English, there exist several terms describing the interlingual homonymy – a phenomenon which I describe in my paper, referring to Belarusian and Polish language. Among these terms, one can indicate: (translator’s/ slavist’s) false friends, false cognates, misleading words (of foreign origin), deceptive words, deceptive cognates or interlinguistic lexical homonymy. The paper includes a review of a few important Polish-Belarusian dictionaries and describes a project of Belarusian-Polish dictionary of translator’s false friends. So far, such a publication has not been worked up. It is important to elaborate a dictionary of this type, including numerous examples. It is needed not only to students and teachers, but also to all those who use Belarusian and Polish in their everyday life (journalists, businessmen, politicians etc.).

The aim of the present paper is to describe the idea of stylistic marked vocabulary in teaching Polish in Belarusian environment. Particular attention is paid to the nuances of different stylistic tokens Polish and Belarusian, which apparently seem very similar to each other. The collected material can help lectors working with Belarusians in stressing the particular issues of stylistic teaching of Polish language and Belarusians learning the Polish language – in avoiding stylistic errors. The issue of stylistic marked vocabulary seems to be detracted from in the field of foreign language didactics. In practice, language learners often have little awareness of such language errors which often do not hinder communication. Therefore, a need for devising dedicated exercises that would help learners not only notice this subtle linguistic difficulty but also eliminate its consequences arises.

Artykuł dotyczy leksyki nacechowanej stylistycznie w nauczaniu języka polskiego Białorusinów. Szczególna uwaga zwracana jest na niuanse stylistyczne różniące leksemy polskie i białoruskie, które z pozoru wydają się bardzo do siebie podobne. Zebrany materiał może pomóc lektorom pracującym z Białorusinami w akcentowaniu poszczególnych kwestii stylistycznych w nauczaniu JPJO, a Białorusinom uczącym się języka polskiego – w unikaniu błędów stylistycznych.

The aim of the present paper is to describe the different variants of transliteration and transcrip­tion of Belarusian words, especially names and place names. In the article the most common inter­national, Belarusian and Polish variants of the Belarusian alphabet transliteration and transcription were presented. There is need to work out one international names and place names transliteration standard.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie różnych wariantów transliteracji i transkrypcji wyrazów białoruskich, zwłaszcza nazwisk i nazw geograficznych. W tekście zaprezentowano najpopularniej­sze międzynarodowe, białoruskie i polskie systemy transliteracji i transkrypcji alfabetu białoru­skiego oraz podkreślono ogromną potrzebę wypracowania jednego międzynarodowego standardu transliteracji, odnoszącego się zarówno do nazwisk, jak i nazw geograficznych.

W artykule analizowane są podręczniki, rozmówki i słowniki tematyczne służące do nauki języka białoruskiego jako obcego, wydane na Białorusi oraz różnych krajach świata. Ukazano także artykuły, w których różni autorzy omawiają dotąd wydane podręczniki. W artykule został zaprezentowany podział omawianych podręczników m.in. ze względu na miejsce wydania, grupę docelową, pochodzenie autorów, prezentowany materiał i funkcje podręczników.

The article analyzes handbooks, phrase books and thematic dictionaries for teaching Belarusian as a foreign language, published in Belarus and various countries around the world. Papers were also shown in which different authors discuss the handbooks issued so far. The article presents the division of discussed handbooks, among others due to the place of publication, the target group, origin of authors, presented material and functions of handbooks.

False equivalents in Belarusian-Polish linguisticsThe paper reviews false equivalents (in a broad sense of the term) in two Slavic languages: Polish and Belarusian. There are not many materials concerning Belarusian-Polish false equivalents, let alone a dictionary. Various types of Belarusian-Polish false equivalents are described and compared on the basis of examples taken from dictionaries and books. The analysis shows that false equivalents in Belarusian-Polish linguistics are a topic worth exploring that is yet to be described in a good monograph.

Towards standards in transliteration of Belarusian names and surnames in PolandThe article presents many transliteration variants of Belarusian names and surnames in Poland. It discusses the most common variants of the Belarusian alphabet transliteration, both international and Belarusian, as well as Polish transcription. The multiplicity of variants raises technical problems in the documents (passports, residence permits, acts of birth etc.). Przedstawiono najpopularniejsze warianty transliteracji alfabetu białoruskiego – zarówno międzynarodowe, jak i białoruskie – oraz transkrypcję polską. Wielość wariantów rodzi problemy natury technicznej w dokumentach (paszporty, karty pobytu, akty urodzin itd.). Artykuł jest głosem w dyskusji na temat opracowania ujednoliconego systemu transliteracji alfabetu białoruskiego na potrzeby dokumentów uznawanych w Polsce.
