The article presents analysis of writings of the rectors of the Jesuit college in Minsk and elaborates the history and activities of this institution. The achievements of four rectors of Minsk are described: Romuald Wojniłłowicz, author of the collection “Holiday sermons for the whole year”, Józef Stanisław Rudomina, Teodat Ramułt, who wrote plays and short rhetorical works, and Franciszek Ksawery Ogiński, who described the history of St. Michael’s Church in Vilnius. The studied literature was considered a manifestation of the communication and pastoral strategy of the Roman Catholic Church in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania during the Saxon era.
The Polish version of the article was published in Roczniki Humanistyczne vol. 61, issue 2 (2013). The article presents selected aspects of the functioning of the concept of poverty in the narrative of Old Polish Franciscan preaching of the Saxon era. The relationship between the context formed by Old Polish culture and the role of the idea of poverty in the Franciscan movement is presented. The author attempts to present the adaptation of the topica, drawing on the broadly conceived Christian tradition, to the realities of the Polish Republic. To do so, an analysis of the discourse of various types of sermons is presented. The object of the analysis is Sunday and holiday preaching. The article, though, focuses on funeral sermons, which apparently has great significance for the Sarmatian culture. The concluding section highlights the extreme importance of the issue of poverty as one of those cultural symbols that defined the place and meaning of caritas in Old Polish culture. It was also necessary to form various aspects of the social sensitivity of those times.
In the article selected aspects are presented of the functioning of the concept of poverty in the narration of Old Polish Franciscan preaching of the Saxon epoch. Relations are shown between the context formed by Old Polish culture and the role of the idea of poverty in the Franciscan movement. An attempt is made to present the adaptation of the topic that draws on the broadly understood Christian tradition to the needs resulting from the realities of the Polish Republic. In order to do this an analysis was made of the discourse of various types of sermons. The object of the analysis was Sunday and holiday preaching. Most attention, however, was devoted to funeral sermons, whose significance in the Sarmatian culture seems especially great. In the conclusions it is emphasized that the topic connected with poverty played an extremely important role as one of those cultural symbols that defined the place and meaning of charitas in Old Polish culture. It was also necessary for forming various aspects of the social sensitivity of those times.
Among Gierowski's research, an important place was occupied by works on the past of Silesia. He started Silesian studies that fit into socio‑economic history. He also published syntheses and source editions devoted to the history of Silesia. His research was continued by Józef Leszczyński and Krystyn Matwijowski. Leszczyński continued and developed his reflection on the social and legal history of Silesia. Among them, he examined the problems of peasant revolts, the situation of the poorest in Silesia during the Thirty Years' War and after its end. He studied Polish‑Silesian relations in the 17th and 18th centuries. Matwijowski conducted research on the history of Pietism and the history of everyday life in Silesia and works devoted to the past of Lower Silesian towns. Gierowski's research is inspired by Jerzy Maroń, the author of a book devoted to the Thirty Years' War in Silesia, Leszek Ziątkowski, authors part of the history of Wrocław and books about the past of Jews in Silesia. Jacek Dębicki deals with the history of culture in Silesia. Daniel Wojtucki develops studies on socio‑cultural phenomena in Silesia and Lusatia.
