The article presents the tragic history of Jan Rokita, a student of law at the Jagiellonian University. He was a member of the anti-communist guerrilla squad called Wiarusy, under the command of Świder (pseudonym “Mściciel” <“Avenger”>). Rokita directly contributed to the destruction of the monument to the Soviet Army in Nowy Targ on 10th October 1947. He was arrested a month later and sentenced to death by the local martial court in Cracow. He was executed on 20th December 1947. The article is based on the archival documents from the Cracow department of the Institute of National Remembrance.
