W artykule przedstawiona została analiza metafor pojęciowych odnoszących się pojęcia specjalistycznego ‘język’. Materiał badawczy stanowił zbiór rozpraw Jana Michała Rozwadowskiego O zjawiskach i rozwoju języka (1950), w którym autor w przystępny sposób stara się przybliżyć czytelnikowi zagadnienia z zakresu teorii języka. Wyrażenia metaforyczne stosowane przez Rozwadowskiego są zróżnicowane ze względu na stopień skonwencjonalizowania, a metafory pojęciowe leżące u ich podstaw układają się hierarchicznie ze względu na stopień ogólności domeny źródłowej.

The paper presents an analysis of conceptual metaphors of language. The research source was an article series O zjawiskach i rozwoju języka by Jan Michał Rozwadowski (1950) who wanted to introduce issues related to language theory in an accessible way. The metaphorical expressions identified and used by Rozwadowski are differentiated according to the degree of conventionality. It was shown that the underlying conceptual metaphors can be arranged hierarchically from the most schematic to the most specific.

This paper examines the distribution and functions of compound and complex prepositions in Polish and EU administrative reports. The analysis is conducted in the corpus-based methodology using corpora of reports drafted by the Polish ministries and by the European Commission, and a large reference corpus – the National Corpus of Polish. The findings of the study show that in comparison to the reference corpus, reports demonstrate a strong tendency to use compound and complex prepositions. It is argued that frequent use of prepositions may be deemed a feature of the genre of administrative reports. Moreover, the study revealed that compound and complex prepositions serve mainly referential, causal, temporal, text deixis and measuring functions. This is in line with the main objective of administrative reports, i.e. communicating information to the public.
