The problem of metaphysical qualities plays an important role in Roman Ingarden's concept of a literary work of art. In his ontology, such a work of art is understood as an integral whole consisting of various layers and qualities. According to Ingarden, metaphysical qualities are revealed in the layer of featured objects. However, is the layer of featured objects an indispensable condition for revealing metaphysical qualities in every work of art, and especially in a literary work? And do those qualities constitute every literary work or only a masterpiece? The consideration of these questions is undertaken in this paper.
