Rewitalizacja – szansa czy zagrożenie dla społecznego obrazu przestrzeni?

Pojęcie rewitalizacji jest używane w niezliczonej liczbie kontekstów. Najczęściej jest ona utożsamiana z jednorazowymi inwestycjami na danym obszarze. Tak rozumiana rewitalizacja stała się doraźnymi działaniami mającymi na celu poprawę (remont, renowację, modernizację) infrastruktury. W działaniach tych pomija się aspekt społeczny, który stanowi podstawę tego procesu. Przykładem takich działań są zmiany jakie zaszły w obszarze kieleckiego rynku. Przeszedł on gruntowną modernizację w ramach Lokalnego Programu Rewitalizacji. Jednak dokonane zmiany w jednej z najważniejszych przestrzeni publicznych w mieście stale budzą kontrowersje. Wynikają one z różnych interpretacji samego pojęcia rewitalizacji i działań, które powinna ona obejmować. Proces rewitalizacji powinien być społeczną adaptacją danej przestrzeni, gdzie działania inwestycyjne stanowią tylko narzędzia do zmiany jej społecznego obrazu nie zaś są celem samym w sobie. Tym samym działania rewitalizacyjne ukierunkowane powinny być na aspekt społeczny i funkcje jakie dana przestrzeń spełnia i może spełniać w przyszłości dla jej użytkowników.

The concept of revitalization is used in various senses. Most often it is identified with one-off investments in a particular area. In this sense, revitalization is associated with ad hoc actions aimed at improving (refit, renovation, modernization) of infrastructure. These actions do not take into account the social aspect that is the basis of the revitalization. As an example, one can point to changes in the market area in Kielce, which has been thoroughly modernized in accordance with the Local Revitalization Program. The changes made in one of the most important public space in the city are still controversial. The reason for the doubts are various interpretations of the concept of revitalization and activities that it should cover. The process of revitalization should be a social adaptation of a particular space. Therefore investment activities change the social image of space, which is the most important aim. For this reason, revitalization activities should be focused on the social aspect and functions that the defined space meets and can meet in the future for its users.
