The paper is an attempt to interpret Dwaj Macieje (Two Maciejs), a poem by Bolesław Leśmian in the context of the poet’s autobiographical experience, namely his friendship with Franz Fischer. In the proposed interpretation Leśmian’s work is a testimony of the faith in the gift of friendship and the gift of story.

To the end of the night. Tadeusz Różewicz’s peeping of the death In my article I analyse Tadeusz Różewicz’s poems, which reflect the author’s anxiety concerning the upcoming death. Writing about death, the poet reaches for the motif of night and dream. He writes about the dead visiting him and appeals to the Orphean motifs. I analyse two poetic descriptions in greater detail: *** Przedzierałem się przez ten sen oraz ***wicher dobijał się do okien. The former one is connected with the death of mother. In Różewicz’s poetry the death of mother becomes an obsessive image which foreshadows his own death, a place of experiencing the limit of poetry itself. The latter is an evidence of the old poet’s fear of death. Death in Różewicz’s works is refl ected both as a horizon of life, and of poetry. A poem understood as the “preview of death” is a neverending effort made in the name of life

In my article I analyse the contradictions between the institutional assumptions at school and the postmodern thinking about didactics. I quote the book entitled In defence of the school. A public issue by Jan Masschelein, Maarten Simons and make an attempt to reflect upon the reading assignment as the time which is free from institutional pressure. I analyse the school curriculum by pointing out the contradictions of its entries and the symbolic violence it includes both towards teachers and students.

The paper concerns the didactics of literature in the postmodern culture. It focuses on the means and strategies of reading popular literature at school. Popular literature is still treated as inferior to high literature in the literary education. Yet, it may become an important element of literary education. Popular literature, which is closer to students, may be just as good tool to interpret our reality as high literature.

The purpose of this paper is to present some motifs in Bolesław Leśmian’s Klechdy polskie. I am primarily interested in the fairytales’ poetics of economy related to the motifs of money and treasure. I also analyse the erotic desire which exceeds the traditional social order and the relationship between the word and object. All these motifs create Leśmian’s vision of reality, which cannot be included in the established cognitive and ethical rules.
