The year of 2017 marked the 950th anniversary of the first mention of Minsk in written sources. The year of 2018 celebrates the centenary of Minsk as the capital of Belarus. The article gives a few facts on some of the buildings associated with the emergence of the Belarusian statehood in 1918. The etymology of Minsk is analyzed. Much attention is paid to the city’s architectural heritage – from ancient times to the present. Some passages from Minsk famous residents’ memoirs are quoted.

У 2017 годзе адзначалася 950-годдзе першай згадкі пра Мінск у пісьмовых крыніцах. У 2018 годзе спаўняецца стагоддзе абвяшчэння горада сталіцай Беларусі. У артыкуле змешчаныя звесткі пра некаторыя будынкі, звязаныя з узнікненнем беларускай дзяржаўнасці ў 1918 годзе. Разглядаецца паходжанне назвы Мінска. Значная ўвага надаецца архітэктурнай спадчыне ад старажытнасці да нашых дзён. Цытуюцца ўрыўкі з успамінаў вядомых жыхароў Мінска.
