"Dworzanin polski" Łukasza Górnickiego realizuje poetykę sympozjonu literackiego (łac. convivium). W niniejszej pracy wskazano na obecność charakterystycznych elementów antycznego gatunku w strukturze polskiego przekładu Il Cortegiano Baltazara Castiglionego. Wśród wyznaczników gatunkowych występujących w przekładzie Górnickiego wymieniono: narrację zewnętrzną i wewnętrzną, porządek rozmów, podyktowany rytmem spożywanych posiłków, brak udziału kobiet w rozmowach, dużą liczbę interlokutorów (9), prowadzenie dysput pod kierunkiem wybranego w tym celu najstarszego spośród biesiadników, eksponowanie idei równości towarzyskiej oraz nawiązania w strukturze dzieła do starożytnych i renesansowych dialogów biesiadnych. Górnicki, nadając Dworzaninowi polskiemu wytworną formę sympozjonu, zdystansował się od wzorca oryginalnego. To wyznaczniki sympotycznego gatunku najmocniej zaważyły na zmianach, jakich dokonał starosta tykociński wobec ramy narracyjnej włoskiego pierwowzoru.

A Polish Courtier (Dworzanin polski) by Łukasz Górnicki reflects the poetics of a literary symposium (Lat. convivium). In this thesis I indicate the presence of characteristic features of the ancient genre in the structure of the Polish translation of Cortegiano II Baldassare Castiglione. Genre determinants, which appear in the Górnicki’s translation include the following: external and internal narration, the order of the talks dictated by the rhythm of food consumption, the absence of women in the talks, significant number of interlocutors (9), carrying out disputes under the direction of the oldest feaster especially elected for this purpose, exposing the idea of social equality and references to the ancient and renaissance regale dialogues in the structure of the work. Górnicki created Dworzanin polski with the use of a refined form of symposium. He went away from the original pattern. The determinants of the genre of a symposium are the factors, which mostly influenced the changes introduced by the governor of Tykocin in the narrative frame of the Italian original.

The text refers to the ancient topos of the debate on drinking water and wine, which is present in Jan Kochanowski’s poetry. The ancient idea of bacchanalian drink and water from the holy spring were seen as the root of the act of creation. Ever since this motif took its final shape in the works of the Anthology poets, it has been used by artists as a pretext for self-referential reflections, as well as for technical musings on sources of inspiration. The classical thread takes on special significance in Kochanowski’s work, because the poet uses it to articulate his own concept of poetic inspiration (enthusiasm), and also because he formulates aesthetic judgment (iudicium) on the criteria for evaluating literature.

Providence and the Enemy. About Jan Zawicki and his Tragedy JeftesThe article is devoted to the tragedy Jeftes by Jan Zawicki, which is the translation of the drama Jephthtes, sive votum written in Latin by the Scottish humanist, George Buchanan. Jan Zawicki was a poet living at the end of XVI c. He was a student of the Cracow Academy and was expelled for many offences recorded in the Acta rectoraria ab anno 1580 ad annum 1618. The author also wrote the cycle of songs known as Charites słowieńskie. The tragedy Jeftes by Jan Zawicki shows parallels and connections in the areas of Theme and topic, with another Polish drama, entitled Jefte, which was staged in the presence of bishop Baranowski in Pułtusk on the 23rd of August, 1599. The article shows features of the style of the author of the Polish translation and describes issues related to the philosophical and theological tissue of this translation.
