The authors of this review analyze a series of books that are translations of Italian opera librettos into Chinese, which leads them to the following findings. They pay special attention to the importance of the literary-dramatic layer. They address this issue by taking into account both theory and practice. They view the translation of an opera libretto in terms of a tool to help Chinese singers solve problems related to the performance practice of European operas. The authors of the series have taken many aspects into account to create a useful tool for singing practitioners in China. They have written translations aimed at opera creators who want to fully know and understand the content and meaning of a given opera libretto. The series, authored by Stella Guo Chen and A. Petruzzi, fulfills yet another role - it contributes to building a cultural bridge between such different cultures as Chinese and European, and in the most practical aspect possible.
