Artykuł zawiera rozważania dotyczące teoretycznego znaczenia kategorii bezpieczeństwa i poczucia bezpieczeństwa na gruncie socjologii. Pojęcia te są wykorzystywane w teoriach dotyczących różnych poziomów organizacji rzeczywistości społecznej. Krótko zostały omówione przykłady takich zastosowań: a) w implikacjach koncepcji „społeczeństwa ryzyka” U. Becka; b) jako kategoria łącząca działania jednostkowe i własności systemu społecznego w koncepcji M. Marody oraz c) jako pojęcia przydatne do charakterystyki pewnych aspektów porządku interakcyjnego w ujęciu E. Goffmana.

The article addresses the theoretical importance of the category of safety and a sense of safety in sociology. These concepts are used in theories referring to different levels of social reality. The paper contains a brief discussion on (a) implications of U. Beck’s concept of the ‘risk society’; (b) usage of these concepts as a link between individual actions and social system attributes in M. Marody’s conception; (c) as constructs useful in characterizing certain aspects of the interaction order by E. Goffman.

Tekst zawiera omówienie książki Barry’ego Gibsona i Jana Hartmana Rediscovering Grounded Theory (2014) na tle dyskusji w obrębie metodologii teorii ugruntowanej. Szczególna uwaga poświęcona jest próbie rekonstrukcji „oryginalnej wersji” teorii ugruntowanej dokonanej przez autorów i związków tej metodologii z wyobraźnią socjologiczną oraz dyskusji, jakiej Gibson i Hartman poddają główne założenia konstruktywistycznej teorii ugruntowanej.

The paper provides an overview of the book Rediscovering Grounded Theory (2014) by Barry Gibson and John Hartman on the background of discussions within the grounded theory methodology. Particular attention is devoted to the reconstruction of the “original version” of grounded theory made by the authors and how this methodology is related to sociological imagination. The paper also briefly presents Gibson and Hartman’s discussion on the main assumptions of constructivist grounded theory.

Artykuł ma charakter przeglądowy. Omawiane są w nim przejawy i uwarunkowania szerokiego stosowania metodologii teorii ugruntowanej w badaniach socjologicznych. Popularności metodologii w badaniach jakościowych towarzyszy jej wewnętrzne różnicowanie i jednocześnie próby odszukania zbioru podstawowych cech przesądzających o jej swoistości. W tym kontekście omawiane są analizy Jane C. Hood, która dokonuje porównania metodologii teorii ugruntowanej do „typowej, indukcyjnej metody jakościowej”. Zróżnicowania metodologii upatruje się za Kathy Charmaz i Antony Bryantem w odmiennych propozycjach rozwiązania dylematów metodologii teorii ugruntowanej, które związane są z odmiennymi sposobami rozumienia ugruntowania, natury danych, podejścia wobec indukcji, dedukcji i abdukcji, problemu wrażliwości teoretycznej, formalizacji analizy danych, problemu weryfikacji, wykorzystywania literatury przedmiotu i związku metodologii z interakcjonizmem symbolicznym.

The paper addresses the symptoms and conditions of the widespread use of the grounded theory methodology in sociological research. The pre-eminence of this methodology among qualitative methods is accompanied by its internal differentiation and at the same time efforts to find a set of its key features. In this context, a comparison of the grounded theory and the „typical inductive qualitative method” by Jane C. Hood is presented. Following Kathy Charmaz and Antony Bryant the different versions of the grounded theory methodology are seen as a result of different ways of solving the grounded theory dilemmas and perplexities: the problem what is grounded in the grounded theory methodology, ways in which the term of data is understood, the approach to induction, deduction and abduction, the problem of the theoretical sensitivity, the problems of formalization of data analysis, the problem of verification, use of the literature and the relationship between the grounded theory methodology and Symbolic Interactionism.

Przedmiotem rozważań w artykule jest problem związku myślenia twórczego z procedurami metodologicznymi. Jest on rozpatrywany na konkretnym przykładzie postulowanego przez metodologię teorii ugruntowanej przypadku bezpośredniego generowania pojęć wprost z danych, interpretowanego jako egzemplifikacja myślenia abdukcyjnego. Omówione zostały zaproponowane przez badaczy z kręgu metodologii teorii ugruntowanej procedury wspomagające kreatywność (odkrywanie): dwoisty charakter myślenia – racjonalny i swobodny (Karen Locke), usuwanie blokad kreatywności i nastawienie „cierpliwości” (Barney G. Glaser) oraz techniki teoretycznych porównań i zadawania pytań (Anselm L. Strauss).

In the paper the problem of relationship between creative thinking and methodological procedures is discussed. It is dealt with as a specific example of a concepts generation from data (accordingly with postulates of the grounded theory methodology) interpreted as an exemplification of abductive thinking. There are some procedures aimed to enhance creativity (discovery) proposed by the grounded theorists that are discussed in the paper such as: double-thinking – rational and free-playing (Karen Locke), removal of creativity blocks and attitude of “patience” (Barney G. Glaser), and techniques of theoretical comparisons and questioning (Anselm L. Strauss).

Since the publication of Barney Glaser and Anselm L. Strauss’ major work, the principles of the authors’ methodology have been used in hundreds of research projects and tested in various field situations. A lively debate taking place among practitioners has revealed a variety of their worldviews, stances, and assumptions that underlie research ventures. It is these factors among other things that led to the emergence of different variants of grounded theory methodology. Today, half a century after the publication of the said work, people beginning their adventure with GTM can – and should – make an informed decision as to the type of GTM that they prefer to use. One obvious advantage of this situation is the fact that many field dilemmas have already been articulated in the source literature, which is why one does not have to confront them in the field on their own. The richness and diversity also applies to substantive areas; the usefulness of GTM is being discovered by researchers of various backgrounds and provenances. Apparently, general interest in methodology is not waning. The volume herein presents some of the questions and matters that are the subject of animated discussions among those researchers who are inspired by the aforementioned perspective.

Od momentu ukazania się publikacji B. Glasera i A. L. Straussa zasady ich metodologii wykorzystano w setkach projektów badawczych, przetestowano w rozmaitych sytuacjach w terenie. Prowadzona wśród praktyków ożywiona debata ujawniła rozmaitość ich światopoglądów i założeń leżących u podstaw badawczych przedsięwzięć. Między innymi te czynniki doprowadziły do wyłonienia się różnych odmian metodologii teorii ugruntowanej. Dziś, pół wieku od momentu opublikowania dzieła, osoby rozpoczynające przygodę z MTU mogą i muszą podjąć świadomą decyzję preferowanego kierunku. Niewątpliwą zaletą tej sytuacji jest to, że wiele dylematów terenowych zostało już wyartykułowanych w literaturze i nie trzeba się z nimi mierzyć samotnie w terenie. Bogactwo i zróżnicowanie dotyczy także obszarów rzeczowych – przydatność MTU jest odkrywana wśród badaczy rozmaitych proweniencji. Najwyraźniej zainteresowanie metodologią nie słabnie; przekazywany do rąk Czytelników tom prezentuje niektóre przedmioty debaty żywotne wśród badaczy inspirujących się wspomnianą perspektywą.
