Old women in poemsThe article refers to Joanna Hobot-Marcinek’s monograph Crone and Goethe. The Experience and Transgression of Old Age (Tadeusz Różewicz, Czesław Miłosz, Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz), Krakow, 2012. In her book, the author continues her research on the topos of old age in contemporary poetry. In the background, she refers to the tradition of this theme. The approaches of Różewicz and Miłosz are different, consistent with their overall philosophy and their poetic programs. Miłosz tries to approach old age by presenting images of old women. He uses, among others, the path indicated by Świrszczyńska.  Różewicz more often deconstructs old age, uses the poetics of the grotesque. Paradoxically, while achieved by different means, in both cases a trait of existential drama is present. The monograph also presents the younger generation of poets. The author looks at male and female poets, as the topos of old age is also gender sensitive. In addition to issues of poetics and literary tradition, an important element in Hobot–Marcinek’s considerations is the autobiographical nature of the examined poems.

The article follows dynamic changes and evolutions in the history of research theories in the field of humanities. It begins with an analysis of studies on group identity, and drawing from ideas by Ewa Domanska, it employs the metaphor of the see as the space in which one can navigate for new themes and ideas. A special importance is attached to the concept of autobiography, especially in reference to the researcher’s life and experience. Boleslaw Prus’s The Doll and its critical reception offers a good case study to illustrate this approach of analysis which draws on private lives of interpreters and critics. The influence of autobiography on literary theory is analysed using Susan Faludi’s Backlash and In the Darkroom.

Artykuł dotyczy zmian w metodologiach humanistycznych. Wychodząc od etapu badań nad tożsamością grup, odwołuje się do tekstu Ewy Domańskiej i zastosowanych w nim metafor poszukiwania nowych tematów i obiektów jako nawigowania po morzu. Za istotne uznaje podejście autobiograficzne, akcentujące doświadczenie badacza. Przykładem takiego podejścia są interpretacje powieści Bolesława Prusa Lalka, weryfikowane w przebiegu życia. Najszerzej omówiony został przykład wpływu autorefleksji na teorię na podstawie książek Susan Faludi (Backlash, In the Darkroom).

FEMINIST CRITICISM IS POSSIBLE The bibliography of Polish academic feminist criticism is so vast that it would seem to require an equally extensive monograph as the one which Krystyna Kłosińska devoted to world criticism. Kłosińska’s book entitled Feministyczna krytyka literacka /Feminist Literary Criticism/ was arranged in such a way as to point to the most important debates, including that of dialogism and the flourishing of discourses. In such a presentation, one perceive the attitude of both authoresses to the most important theoretical conceptions; the reading practices and the new matrixes created in their consequence as well as the new trails to be followed. Attempts to place the gender discourse in a wider context of literature studies have been undertaken in Poland already before, usually with the view of shedding light on the foreign tradition. In her article, the authoress describes these attempts, pointing fi rstly to the historical-literary revendications undertaken primarily in the academic space, and secondly: the gender criticism of culture reviving the extra-academic discourse.

W tekście zaprezentowano autobiograficzny trójkąt „przepisany” narzędziami krytyki feministycznej. Jego ramionami są: tożsamość–performans–komunikacja, zmodyfikowane strategie opisane w „oryginalnym” trójkącie Małgorzaty Czermińskiej. Bazowa z punktu widzenia studiów feministycznych była kwestia podmiotowości wspólnotowej, wyrażenia podmiotu kobiecego. Następnie pojawił się element konstrukcji, performowania „ja”. Trzecie ramię trójkąta stanowi pragmatyka komunikacyjna.

The text presents an autobiographical triangle “re-written” with the use of feminist critique tools. The sides of the triangle are: identity, performance and communication – modified strategies described in the “original” triangle by Małgorzata Czermińska. The base, from the perspective of feminist studies, was the question of communal subjectivity, expression of the female subject. Then the element of construction appeared – performativity of “I”. The third side of the triangle constitutes communicative pragmatism.

The following text is a fragment of the dialogue between Inga Iwasiów and Agnieszka Graff about the book Graff. Jestem stąd [Graff. I am from here]. The conversation took place on 5 December 2014 at the Helena Radlińska Pedagogical Library in Szczecin. The main topics discussed are women’s autobiographical gesture and its ‘audacity’ and the author’s process of coming to feminist consciousness during her studies in the USA. The dialogue also concerns individual and collective aspects of autobiography, different approaches to education and the canon, and the ways these affect intellectual choices and attitudes.

Z przekonaniem, że wypowiedzi sprowokowane ankietowymi pytaniami to jedna z istotnych dzisiaj form krytycznej wymiany myśli, zwróciliśmy się do krytyków z kilkoma pytaniami dotyczącymi współczesnej krytyki w kontekście przemieszania tendencji, języków, kryteriów, kanałów komunikacyjnych, ale też pojawiających się w ostatnich latach manifestów i programów. Rozpisaliśmy naszą ankietę zapewne trochę z niepewności, czy potrafi my dobrze, adekwatnie nakreślić przestrzeń obecnej krytyki; trochę z obawy, czy nie zamkniemy jej w klatce akademickiej refleksji, skracając jej oddech i ucinając (i tak już mocno podcięte) skrzydła; ale też z przekonania, że w takiej materii jak krytyka liczy się (nomen omen) wielogłosowość i że metakrytyczne refleksje, które oczywiście nie zastąpią krytycznej roboty, są – cokolwiek by o nich powiedzieć – potrzebne i inspirujące. Jednym słowem – rozpisaliśmy te ankietę nie tyle w zastępstwie poważnej dyskusji, ile z chęci dopuszczenia do głosu krytyków działających w różnych przestrzeniach i obiegach komunikacyjnych. Pytania o faktyczne (i postulowane) miejsce krytyki literackiej w różnych obiegach współczesnej kultury czy też o to, po co, dla kogo i z jakim umocowaniem czyta i pisze dziś krytyk – miały – w naszym zamierzeniu – stanowić punkt wyjścia do rozważań na temat aktualnego usytuowania krytyki.
