The paper presents development of prototype of integrated inertial-satellite navigation system that contains 3-axis accelerometers, gyros, magnetometers, barometric altimeter and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver. Navigation system testing procedure by means of flight at airdrome at small remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) is described, and data processing details with results are submitted. These results received from the data post-processing had approved the efficiency of integrated navigation system functioning in normal navigation mode, i.e. during availability of GNSS measurements. It has been shown as well that after approximately 10 s of autonomous MEMS inertial navigation system (INS) functioning accuracy of velocity and position calculation degrades significantly.

The approaches for improvement of the future air traffic controllers training efficiency according to their individual learning styles are considered. It is purposeful to use the P. Honey & A. Mumford’s criteria-based test for distribution of students into four basic learning styles. The role of air traffic controller-instructor in process of rating the training is considered.

Using mathematical method of priorities arrangement, also known as problem “about leader”, air accidents frequency and hazard desirability coefficients were found. Those coefficients are proposed by ICAO for safety risk tolerability matrix solution. Integral index of mentioned parameters combinations hazard is found with help of Harrington desirability function. Risk levels determination index is introduced for researched matrix.

Satellite technologies of communication, navigation and surveillance play an important role in modern transport, and particularly in aviation. High effectiveness of global air navigation system is provided by applying data broadcasted from great numbers of satellites, located on Earth orbits. The totality of existing satellite navigation system forms global radio navigation field which parameters should be constantly monitored and controlled for providing safety requirements. The aim of this article is to share experience of creating a laboratory of satellite technologies at the National Aviation University that performs simultaneously educational and scientific tasks.

The aviation safety issue has been one of the most urgent challenges since the first day of flight operations. Aircrafts, avionics, engines, and navigation, communication and surveillance aids have changed and developed, but the problem has never lost its relevance. The main purpose of ICAO is to ensure the safe and orderly development of all aspects of international civil aviation. ICAO develops Standards and Recommended Practices. They are set out in 19 Annexes to the Convention on International Civil Aviation. The new ICAO strategies are the basis for the further sustainable development of global civil aviation. The paper paid special attention to the civil aviation hazards monitoring and risks management in the context of global aviation development trends. The paper deals with challenges of international education and introduces practical experience of the National Aviation University according to the new technologies in transport and aviation education, and trends of international cooperation with the International University of Logistics and Transport in Wroclaw in this sphere.

New technologies in the global aero - space engineering education are considered. The paper paid special attention to the civil aviation hazards and risks in the context of global aviation development trends. The paper deals with challenges of new aviation specialties creation, including features of 1, 2 and 3 education cycles. The paper introduces practical experience of the National Aviation University according to the new technologies in the aero - space engineering education implementation.

The principles of civil aviation safety and efficiency in conditions of air transportation market globalization are considered. The paper paid special attention to the civil aviation threats and risks in the context of globalization processes. The paper deals with problems of changes of multilateral and bilateral regulations philosophy, the liberalization of airlines designation, national ownership and control provisions, the development of airline alliances, code-sharing agreements and franchising, the development of low-cost carriers operations, the outsourcing of ground handling, aircraft repair and maintenance, the globalization and commercialization of airports and air navigation service providers, the significant growth of air cargo and logistics transportations.

The use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems RPAS has been considered for a wide range of tasks performed in global logistics systems and territorial infrastructure. In order to improve the efficiency the advanced methods of using new unmanned vehicles with extensive use of features modular construction and design modifications have been proposed.

The principles of civil aviation safety are considered. At present time, aviation is an ultra-safe system, (i.e. a system that experiences less than one catastrophic safety breakdown every one million production cycles). But, unfortunately, we can never state that aviation activities will be absolutely safe. In current conditions the increase of the civil aviation safety level is one of the principal objectives of the world air transport development. The paper pays special attention to the civil aviation threats and risks in the context of globalization processes. The investigation deals with problems of global implementation of Annex 19 to the Convention of the International Civil Aviation. Present research paper discusses new theoretical approaches to searching for methods to assess the “safety space” of civil aviation activity. Special attention is paid to an effective test, proposed by A. Wald.
