The age of timber used for construction of bridges is more and more disappearing in darkness of the past. To forward to the generations th a t will follow some evidence pertaining to the last relics of engineering works executed in wood they should be brought to the form of technical drawings, artistic photographs and some of them even preserved as the monuments of a more or less distant past times. The author has made his objective to convince not only the representatives of technical milieux, but also those concerned with conservation activities about the need of care that should be given to bridges constructed from wood still existing in Poland and, furthermore, of making themselves familiar with various kinds of their constructions.

The ceiling in a traditional higlanders’ cottage is made of beams with the girder running along its lengthwise asis. The subject of the article is an analysis of static work of such a ceiling, made by means of comparison of the deflection of beams and girder in places of their intersection. It has been noticed that cooperation of constructional elements does not consist only in the imparting of force from beams onto the girder but also on mutual force imparting.
