The aim of this paper is to describe the functioning of neologisms based on the decomposed root kato-, which takes its origins from the word katolicyzm (Catholicism), katolik (a Catholic) or katolicki (Catholic), in the contemporary Polish language. For this purpose, the author presents his classifi cation and includes the fi ndings of earlier scholars in this fi eld. Subsequently, the collected vocabulary is described from the perspective of language pragmatics in order to, for instance, present the infl uence of social events and Internet users’ activity on creating new lexis. The conducted analysis demonstrates, among others, a considerable number of terms marked pejoratively, ideologically, and politically. That fact is interpreted from the philosophical point of view proposed in essays written by Józef Tischner. The paper also outlines the possibility to look at the collected lexical resource from the angle of the notion of linguistic worldview. Moreover, it points to a convergence between the results of the conducted analysis and general fi ndings about the development tendencies of the contemporary Polish language.

The aim of this article is to characterise the sociolect of Warsaw enthusiasts of urban transport, with a particular focus on lexis and phraseology. The author attempts a description of the group of people interested in mass transport as a communication community, analyses the formal characteristics of the sociolect they use, and presents the expressions used by them in an arrangement intended to reproduce the linguistic worldview specific to them, which encompasses urban transport vehicles, vehicle equipment, service names, designations of places and people, as well as events involving urban transport.

Celem artykułu jest scharakteryzowanie socjolektu warszawskich miłośników komunikacji miejskiej ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem leksyki i frazeologii. Autor dokonuje opisu grupy osób zainteresowanych transportem zbiorowym jako wspólnoty komunikacyjnej, analizuje cechy formalne stosowanego przez nich socjolektu, a ponadto przedstawia stosowane przez nich określenia w uporządkowaniu mającym na celu odtworzyć właściwy dla nich językowy obraz świata, obejmujący pojazdy komunikacji miejskiej, elementy wyposażenia pojazdów, nazwy linii, określenia miejsc i osób, a także zdarzeń związanych z komunikacją miejską.

The aim of this article is to show the extent to which Józef Tischner’s Historia filozofii po góralsku (The History of Philosophy, Highlander Style) is a cognitively attractive source of learning about Podhale’s dialect and culture and the possible threats or difficulties that may be associated with using the work to this end. The author begins his discussions by considering such features of the work under examination as its apocryphal and fairy-tale-like nature and proceeds to showing it on three different planes. From the linguistic perspective, he notes the dialectal features characteristic of the work in terms of phonetics, inflection, syntax, word formation, lexis, and phraseology. In terms of cultural studies, he devotes his attention to the customs and traditions of the Podhale region as well as to the regional cuisine, which found their places in individual stories. In some of the considerations focused to a greater extent on philosophy, the author indicates the characteristic features of the highlander worldview, which Tischner captures in his work, and conducts the word-formation and semantic analysis of selected neologisms and neosemantisms, which were used by the author of the stories to enrich the highlanders’ speech with philosophical terminology.
