Celem artykułu jest określenie znaczenia firm, producentów technik informacyjnych (ICT) w tej części gospodarki światowej, którą tworzą korporacje o zasięgu globalnym. Na podstawie dostępnych danych statystycznych określona zostanie liczba oraz udziały firm z branży ICT w przychodach, zyskach i wartości rynkowej ogółu korporacji transnarodowych. Pozwoli to na ocenę, czy branża, do której powszechnie przywiązujemy tak duże znaczenie, rzeczywiście odgrywa przypisywaną jej rolę.

The aim of the article is to determine the importance of ICT companies in this part of the world economy which is formed by global corporations. On the basis of available statistical data the number of companies from the ICT sector as well as their share in the revenues, profits and market value will be defined. This will allow to assess if the industry to which commonly we attach such importance indeed plays the attributed role.

Artykuł omawia znaczenie informacji i technik informacyjnych jako istotnych przyczyn przemian współczesnego świata. Opisano mechanizmy wpływu technik informacyjnych na gospo-darkę i społeczeństwo. Omówiono rosnącą zależność współczesnego człowieka od systemów infrastrukturalnych oraz wzajemne związki rozwoju systemów infrastrukturalnych i rozwoju spo-łeczno-gospodarczego. Zdefiniowano infrastrukturę informacyjną i jej szczególną rolę we współ-czesnym świecie. Opisano wpływ technik informacyjnych na gospodarkę i procesy zarządzania. Podkreślone zostaje znaczenie twórczej destrukcji, jako mechanizmu formującego zarówno sam rynek technik informacyjnych jak i pozostałe rynki, na których ICT jest używane. Krótko scharak-teryzowano historię rozwoju technik informacyjnych. Opisana została niepredyktywność rozwoju ICT i związane z tym przemiany rynkowe. Podkreślono szczególnie dynamiczny rozwój technik mobilnych umożliwiających dostęp do infrastruktury informacyjnej osób i regionów dotychczas wykluczonych. Omówiono rolę ICT w kreacji nowych produktów, usług i rynków. Zdefiniowana została także rola technik informacyjnych jako źródła niepewności i zmian w strukturach rynkowych. Tak więc uwzględnione zostają zarówno pozytywne, jak i negatywne skutki rozwoju i rozpowszechnienia technik informacyjnych.

The article discusses the importance of information and information technology as a significant cause of transformation of the modern world. It describes the impact of information technology on the economy and society. The growing dependence of contemporary human from infrastructure systems and the inter-relationships of infrastructure systems development and socio-economic development are discussed. The information infrastructure and its special role in the modern world is defined. The impact of information technology on the economy and governance processes are described. The importance of creative destruction, as a mechanism for forming both the information technology market itself as well as other markets in which ICT is used, is underlined. The history of the development of information technologies is briefly sketched. The unpredictability of the ICT development and the associated market transformation are described. Rapid development of mobile technologies is particularly underlined. It is a factor allowing access to the information infrastructure to people and regions hitherto excluded. Finally the role of ICT in creating new products, services and markets is discussed. The role of information technology as a source of uncertainty and changes in market structures is defined. So, both positive and negative effects of the development and dissemination of information technologies are taken into account.
