Seksualność osób niepełnosprawnych intelektualnie jest tematem trudnym, kontrowersyjnym i nie pozbawionym tabu, w literaturze naukowej rzadko poruszanym. Poglądy środowisk naukowych zajmujących się tą problematyką są dość mocno podzielone. W artykule podjęto analizę wybranych aspektów seksualności osób niepełnosprawnych intelektualnie. Dokonano charakterystyki rozwoju seksualności w normie oraz poza normą. Dokonano zdefiniowania pojęcia inicjacji seksualnej, jak również formy zachowań seksualnych osób niepełnosprawnych intelektualnie. Zawarto argumenty zwolenników jak i przeciwników akceptacji życia seksualnego osób niepełnosprawnych. Skoncentrowano się również na tożsamości płciowej i seksualnej osób niepełnosprawnych, jak również na partnerskiej i pozapartnerskiej aktywności seksualnej. Poruszono kwestię masturbacji, która jest najczęstszą formą aktywności seksualnej wśród osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną.

The sexuality of people with intellectual disabilities is a difficult, controversial and taboo topic, which receives little attention in field scientific literature. The opinions of the scientific circles dealing with this issue are divided. This article analyzes selected aspects of sexuality in people affected by intellectual disabilities. The characteristics of normal and abnormal development of sexuality are discussed. The concept of sexual initiation and sexual behavior of people with intellectual disabilities are described. The arguments of supporters and opponents of sexual activity of disabled people are presented. The focus of this paper is also on the sexual identity of people with disabilities as well as their relational and extra-relational sexual activity. The issue of masturbation, which is the most common form of sexual activity those people engage in, is also discussed
