The aim of the present article is to offer some reflections on the possibilities of developing intercultural competence in the context of glottodidactics by employing some elements constituting the language of football and sport. It is demonstrated that such elements as football-related lexems, anthroponyms of Italian football players, Italian football and fascism, cultural scripts, and many others can be used to shape students’ awareness as regards Italian culture, society, lifestyle, and customs. Consequently, one facilitates the enculturation process and the achievement of intercultural competence.

Word-formation and compounding in Italian present many interesting challenges (classification of compounds, its interpretation and types of semantic relationship that may hold between the compound’s elements). This article attempts to examine a different one - the orthography of one productive compounding pattern in present-day Italian, that is Verb + Noun compounds. Various accounts of Verb + Noun ortography are reviewed, with special focus on the status of hyphenated words. In light of this data, the author focuces also on the problem of inclusion of compounds as multi-word units by dictionaries. The aim of this research is to contrast theoretical prescriptions with some data samples of Italian (Noun) Verb + Noun compounds drawn from La Gazzetta dello Sport (2016-2020). With this analysis the author wants to examine more in detail whether the use reflects what Italian grammarians claim about the Verb + Noun compounds ortography rules, because in various researches conducted in this field that aspect has often been neglected.

The paper concentrates on the presence of football lexicon in Polish public discourse. Special emphasis is put on the notion of Bauman’s liquid modernity as an important constituent of the modern world. The notion is connected with language and lexicon change, particularly with the lexicon of languages for specific purposes. The paper underlines the importance of interpenetration between the football lexicon, common lexicon and political lexicon.

The paper deals with Italian helping verbs (modal, aspectual, causative verbs) and light verbs which form complex predicates and with the rules that guide its use in Italian descriptive grammars published in Italy between 1953 and 2005. The author shows that those forms in both – traditional and contemporary Italian descriptive grammars are treated at the level of word classes whereas it could be more appropriate to discuss them as clause elements as they form complex predicates. In our opinion this way of describing such verbs is due to the tradition in Italy to focus on a form and not on function of an element. What is more, Italian grammarians tend to omit in Italian descriptive grammars noun predicationand the role of semantic predicate (n pred.). The goal of the paper is to present the advantages of an integrated approach to helping verbs (modal, aspectual, causative verbs) and light verbs in modern Italian. The author emphasizes its importance for contemporary Italian FL syntax teaching.
