Material management covers all processes related to materials management at all levels of management. It concerns both the processes of acquiring, using and moving products to recipients. One of the effects of activities undertaken by the company is the creation of a waste stream. This applies to both the processes within the company and the consequences of using or consuming products by customers. Increased care for the natural environment contributes to undertaking a number of pro-ecological activities by enterprises. A proper understanding of the consequences of the implemented processes on the environment and the importance of issues related to product design and planning of the use of materials becomes a priority in the modern world. The article presents selected issues concerning the management of municipal waste.

Gospodarka materiałowa obejmuje swoim zasięgiem wszelkie procesy związane z gospodarowaniem materiałami na wszystkich szczeblach zarządzania. Dotyczy ona zarówno procesów pozyskiwania, wykorzystania, jak i przemieszczania do odbiorców. Jednym z efektów działań podejmowanych przez przedsiębiorstwo jest powstawanie strumienia odpadów. Dotyczy to zarówno procesów wewnątrz przedsiębiorstwa, jak i następstw wykorzystywania lub wyeksploatowania produktów przez klientów. Zwiększona troska o środowisko naturalne przyczynia się do podejmowania przez przedsiębiorstwa szeregu działań o charakterze proekologicznym. Właściwe zrozumienie następstw realizowanych procesów na środowisko oraz znaczenia zagadnień związanych z projektowaniem produktów oraz planowaniem wykorzystania materiałów staje się priorytetowe we współczesnym świecie. W artykule przedstawiono wybrane zagadnienia dotyczące zagospodarowania odpadów komunalnych.
