The paper comprises two parts. The first deals with the musicological concept of polyphony, replanted in the ground of literary studies. It analyses some terms which are synonymous with the notion of polyphony: multi-layeredness, multi-meaningness, multi-linguality, multi-styledness, multi-vocality (multi-subjectivity), simultaneism, syntactic leveling of utterances. The second part discusses literary works of Olga Tokarczuk and Andrzej Stasiuk. The starting point is Oswald Ducrot’s linguistic concept of polyphony in utterances.
