In this article, the face and its functions will be briefly presented. This approach will be approached from a mental, physical and social perspective. The aim of the article is to show in a holistic approach the difficulties faced by a person who “loses” his current face. Acquired changes become the cause of disability understood in many aspects. Finally, selected acquired causes of deformation of the orofacial complex are described in the form of: facial nerve palsy, trigeminal nerve palsy and facial cancer.

W niniejszym artykule na początku po krótce zostanie przedstawiony układ twarzy oraz jej funkcje. Podejście to zostanie ujęte z perspektywy psychicznej, fizycznej i społecznej. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie w holistycznym ujęciu trudności z jakimi spotyka się osoba „tracąca” swoją dotychczasową twarz. Nabyte zmiany stają się przyczyną niepełnosprawności rozumianej wieloaspektowo. Na koniec opisano wybrane nabyte przyczyny deformacji kompleksu ustno-twarzowego w postaci: porażenia nerwu twarzowego, porażenia nerwu trójdzielnego oraz nowotworów w obrębie twarzy.
