The ancient early Christian authors had a high level of communicativecompetence. This competence was expressed in their great artistry in oratory,writing and in their understanding the meaning of the communicationcontexts. To show and describe the communicative competence of theChurch Fathers, the author of the present article focuses on the metaphorsused by them. At the beginning, a metaphor as a rhetorical device is explained,in terms of what kind of function it has and how it works. In thesecond phase, the specific examples of metaphors that referred to povertyand wealth were chosen and their interpretations expounded. In the finalsection, the topic in question is summarized and then the conclusions cometo are related to contemporary religious communication and the transmissionof the faith in the digital world.

The aim of this review and theoretical study is to determine the importance of media ecology theory for communication and media studies. Bearing in mind this research goal, the following research questions were asked: What is the media ecology theory? What approach to media and communication research does it represent? What research perspectives are proposed in the field of media ecology? What new can media ecology bring to communication and media studies? An additional objective of the article, and, at the same, time the intention of the authors, is to raise the interest of Polish researchers in the subject of media ecology and its various aspects, enriching research in the field of communication and media studies.

The following case study presents the most important references to the transmission of auditive and visual information in the context of communicative and ethical competences that can be found both in the Bible and in the Magisterium of the Church. The authors apply the media theology approach and will show that media theology discipline has its origins in the Bible. The conducted research analyses the Bible-theological sources of using audiovisual media to communicate messages. The goal of the research is an attempt to answer the following questions: How does the Bible refer to the transmission of a word, image, sound and silence? To what extent does the Catholic Church contemporarily carry out the scientific reflection on the audiovisual media and also communicative and ethics competences? How does it fulfil the most important demands of the Second Vatican Council related to this issue? What kind of challenges, regarding the media research, awaits the contemporary theology? Where are the foundations of media theology discipline? The whole article is divided into six sections: the introduction, biblical basis of the visual and auditive transmission, audiovisuality in the teaching of the Church, communicative and ethical competences, media theology – theology of communication, and conclusions.

The aim of the article is to define contemporary links between linguistics, especially applied linguistics and media science. The authors’ task is to indicate the areas of interpenetration of both disciplines and their sub-disciplines, showing the possibilities of cooperation between linguists and media experts, including cooperation of an interdisciplinary nature. The article refers to such aspects of scientific activity as the subject of scientific research of cognitive work (subject and investigator, the conceptual aspect, the methodological aspect and the teleological aspect).

Celem artykułu jest określenie współczesnych związków lingwistyki, w tym zwłaszcza lingwistyki stosowanej, z medioznawstwem. Autorzy wskazali obszary przenikania się obydwu dyscyplin oraz ich subdyscyplin, ukazując możliwości współpracy lingwistów i medioznawców, w tym współpracy o naturze interdyscyplinarnej. W artykule odniesiono się do takich aspektów działalności naukowej, jak: przedmiot i podmiot badań poznawczej pracy naukowej, aspekt koncepcyjny, aspekt metodologiczny oraz aspekt teleologiczny).
