The article deals with the immigration process of Azoreans to the captaincy of Grão-Pará, an integral part of the currently known Brazilian Amazon. Although islanders have emigrated to the region since the 17th century, our research focused on trips made between 1751-1754, in a specific context of an epidemic and marked by the political guidelines of the reign of D. José I. We advanced to understand the resistance to the act of emigrating, the profile of those who emigrated and the difficulties associated with their insertion in Amazonian lands.

O artigo trata do processo imigratório de açorianos para a capitania do Grão-Pará, parte integrante da atualmente conhecida Amazônia brasileira. Embora desde o século XVII os ilhéus emigrem para a região, nossa pesquisa se deteve nas viagens feitas entre 1751-1754, num contexto específico de epidemia e marcado pelas orientações políticas do reinado de D. José I. Avançamos para compreender as resistências ao ato de emigrar, o perfil daqueles que emigraram e as dificuldades associadas à sua inserção em terras amazônicas.
