The paper discusses Polnische Sprach⸗Kunst (1734), a grammar of Polish written by Jerzy Schlag, a German who taught Polish in Silesia. Schlag’s handbook stands out among the grammars of the time: the author has intentionally foregone grammar terminology and departed from the traditional Latin-based language description. The article presents Schlag’s innovative description of the language system, and verifies the extent to which the author actually managed to follow his intention of foregoing grammar terminology.

Artykuł poświęcony jest gramatyce języka polskiego Polnische SprachᵙKunst (1734), autorstwa Jerzego Schlaga, Niemca uczącego języka polskiego na Śląsku. Podręcznik Schlaga wyróżnia się spośród współczesnych mu gramatyk poprzez zamierzoną przez autora rezygnację z terminologii gramatycznej oraz odejście od schematu opisu języka przejętego z tradycji łacińskiej. Artykuł przedstawia, na czym polega nowatorstwo opisu systemu języka zaproponowanego przez Schlaga oraz w jakim stopniu zrealizował autor zamiar odrzucenia terminologii.

This paper discusses the history of the first critical edition of the Hildebrandslied. The sole extant version of the famous Old High German epic, preserved only in fragments, was copied on the first and the last page of a codex dated to the 8th/9th c. and written in Fulda. The first scholarly edition of the Hildebrandslied was published in 1812 by the Grimm brothers who were also the first to recognize the poem’s alliterative verse form.

This article examines grammatical terms present in Polish–German and German–Polish dictionaries from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The study is focused on changes in the number of terms included in the dictionaries, on the description of the places where these terms occur, and on the function of the terminology studied. The findings also take into account the language of the grammatical terms.

Niniejszy artykuł jest analizą terminów gramatycznych obecnych w słownikach polsko-niemieckich i niemiecko-polskich z XVII, XVII i XIX wieku. Rozważania koncentrują się na zmianach w liczbie terminów uwzględnianych w słownikach, na opisie miejsc, w których owe terminy są obecne, a także funkcji, w jakiej badana terminologia występuje. Obserwacje dotyczą również języka zastosowanej terminologii gramatycznej.

Das Vorfeld: zu einem Grundterminus der deutschen Syntax

The article examines the notion of Vorfel ‘prefield’, one of the basic terms of German syntax. The article is diachronic and covers the period from the 17th century to 1937, when Erich Drach first introduced the term Vorfeld in his work Grundgedanken der deutschen Satzlehre. The aim of this article is to show whether and to what extent the prefield (Vorfeld) and the ways it can be filled were addressed by the grammars and scholarly treatieses of the period under discussion, as well as by Drach’s work. Additionally, the authors ponder upon the role played by sentence bracket (Satzklammer) in older grammars while defining the prefield. The article opens with a brief description of the term Vorfeld from a contemporary perspective.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest termin Vorfeld, jeden z podstawowych terminów składni języka niemieckiego. Artykuł ma charakter diachroniczny i obejmuje okres od XVII wieku do 1937 roku, kiedy to Erich Drach jako pierwszy wprowadził termin Vorfeld w swoim dziele Grundgedanken der deutschen Satzlehre. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie, czy i w jakim stopniu w gramatykach i naukowych traktatach z omawianego okresu, a także w dziele Dracha przedpole (Vorfeld) i jego wypełnienie były tematem opisu i terminologicznego ujęcia oraz jaką rolę odgrywała klamra zdaniowa (Satzklammer) w starszych gramatykach przy definiowaniu przedpola. Artykuł otwiera krótki opis terminu Vorfeld z dzisiejszej perspektywy.
