Pojęcie „klimat społeczny” nie jest pojęciem obcym w polskiej literaturze naukowej. Od lat prowadzone są w Polsce badania dotyczące klimatu społecznego różnorodnych instytucji, w tym także zakładów poprawczych. Prezentowany artykuł wpisuje się właśnie w ten nurt poszukiwań badawczych. Przedstawione w nim wyniki badań (przeprowadzonych w dziewięciu zakładach poprawczych) obrazują elementy budujące klimat społeczny tych instytucji, jak również wskazują na związki pomiędzy cechami wychowawców i wychowanków badanych zakładów, ich doświadczeniem, aktywnością, a poszczególnymi wymiarami panującego w nich klimatu społecznego.

The term “social climate” is not unknown in Polish scholarly publications. The research concerning the social climate of various institutions, including detentions centres, has been carried out for years. The present article concentrates on this kind of academic research. The results of the research (carried out in nine detention centres) illustrate the elements that build up the social climate of these institutions. They also indicate the relations between supervisors and pupils, their features, experience, activity and the dimensions of the social climate.

The presented article aims to present the first scientific papers written by the outstanding Polish educator who was a prematurely deceased (1980) doc. dr hab. Czesław Czapow from the University of Warsaw. They show us the beginnings of the development of his thoughts and scientific interests, which in later years resulted in outstanding scientific works that fit into the history of social rehabilitation thought in Poland.
