The present study is an attempt to apply statistical methods in investigating the vocabulary of Old Bulgarian on the basis of lexical material from the Historical Palaea. Tables and charts are used to present a glotometric characterization of the lexical material under study. A comparison is made with data from other Old Bulgarian written monuments that have already been the object of similar studies.

The article studies the names of persons with a terminology function in John Exarch’s translation of The Theology. The author analyzes various types of word formation nomina personalia with a special meaning in the research monument, dwells on semantic derivation, which occurs in this group of words, and comments on their characteristic language phenomena like polysemy, synonymy, and homonymy. She also examines their relationship to the corresponding parallels in the Greek original, studies the distribution of separate lexical units in other monuments of Old Bulgarian literature from the same period, traces various types of substitutions at these words in the manuscript tradition of theology.
