Parental leaves in Poland: goals, challenges, perspectives

The aim of the paper is to describe availability and usage of parental leaves for women of reproductive age. We show the motivation for introducing the leaves and their history in Poland. Based on data from the Central Statistical Office (CSO; Polish: GUS), Social Insurance Institution (SII; Polish: ZUS) and Labour Force Survey (LFS; Polish: BAEL), the use of maternity leave in Poland are presented and potential problems related to it re discussed.

Celem artykułu jest próba opisania problemu dostępności i wykorzystania urlopów macie- rzyńskich przez kobiety w wieku rozrodczym w Polsce. Opisane zostały przesłanki wpro- wadzenia urlopów związanych z rodzicielstwem oraz ich historia w Polsce. Na podstawie danych GUS, ZUS i BAEL przedstawiono wykorzystanie urlopów macierzyńskich w Pol- sce i omówiono związane z nimi potencjalne problemy.
