The purpose of this article is to explore the phenomenon of the crime of murder. The Podlaskie Voivodeship, with its rich history andbeautiful landscapes, also harbors dark secrets of unsolved crimes. These stories, although tragic for the victims’ families, captivate and unsettle society, and their mystery often makes them a part of local culture and legend. Understanding the phenomenon of murder as a crime, as well as the challenges associated with conducting investigations in such cases, is crucial for better handling similar cases in the future. The author aims to demonstrate that unsolved murders often end up in archives, but they are never completely closed. Officers from „Cold Case Units” regularly review these files, hoping that new evidence or testimonies will eventually help unravel the unsolved and mysterious crimes. Many times, thanks to technological advancements, it has been possible to solve cold case murders from many years ago. For instance, there are cases where new DNA analysis played a key role, allowing for the identification of the per-petrator even after many decades.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie fenomenu przestępstwa zabójstwa oraz przybliżenie przykładów zbrodni zabójstwa sprzed lat w województwie podlaskim. Podlasie, z jego bogatą historią i pięknymi krajobrazami, skrywa także mroczne tajemnice nierozwiązanych zbrodni. Historie te, mimo że są tragediami dla rodzin ofiar, fascynują i niepokoją społeczeństwo, a ich tajemniczość sprawia, że stają się częścią lokalnej kultury i legend. Zrozumienie fenomenu zabójstwa jako przestępstwa oraz wyzwań związanych z prowadzeniem śledztw w takich sprawach jest kluczowe, by lepiej radzić sobie z podobnymi przypadkami w przyszłości. Autorka postara się wykazać, że niewykryte zabójstwa często trafiają do archiwów, ale nigdy nie są całkowicie zamykane. Policjanci „Zespołów do spraw niewykrytych” regularnie przeglądają teczki, licząc na to, że nowe dowody lub zeznania pozwolą w końcu rozwikłać niewyjaśnione i tajemnicze zbrodnie. Wielokrotnie już, dzięki postępowi technologicznemu, udało się rozwikłać niewykryte zabójstwa sprzed wielu lat. Przykładem mogą być sprawy, w których kluczową rolę odegrała nowa analiza DNA, pozwalająca na identyfikację sprawcy nawet po wielu dekadach.
