The purpose of the article is to analyse and interpret Władysław Stanisław Reymont’s novelistic sketch entitled The Dreamer. The article opens with background information on the socio-cultural context of the modernist period of Young Po­land (Młoda Polska), the transformations of its novels and its psychological interests. In the next part, the author offers a short presentation of Reymont’s literary output, which is followed by a detailed analysis of the main protagonist’s behavio­ur with regard to the symptoms of his mental disintegration (dereism, dysphoria, depersonalisation).

Celem artykułu jest analiza i interpretacja szkicu powieściowego Marzyciel Władysława Stanisława Reymonta. Na początku scharakteryzowany został kontekst społeczno-kulturowy Młodej Polski z uwzględnieniem przemian powieści młodopolskiej i jej zainteresowań psychologicznych. Następnie krótko omówiona została twórczość Reymonta. W dalszej części następuje dokładna analiza zachowania tytułowego bohatera pod kątem obecności w nim przejawów dezintegracji psychicznej (dereizm, dysforia, depersonalizacja).
