The farming conditions in Lithuania are rather variable. The earnings from farming in unproductive lands are a few times as small as from farming in fertile lands. In some Lithuanian regions agricultural activity has become unprofitable. For improvement of conditions for development of agricultural activity, the territories less favourable for farming, i.e. territories where agricultural activity is unprofitable and requires state support, were distinguished. It has turned out that these territories are rather variable in terms of agricultural activity. Some of them even include lands convenient for farming. The article focuses on analysis of agricultural activity intensity indices in the territories less favourable for agriculture. Emphasis is placed on comparison of standard output in the areas with different soil productivity of the territories less favourable for agriculture, number of farms and analysis of standard output by economic size of farms.
