The article attempts to show the relationship of the philosophical idea of freedom in the philosophy of Baruch Spinoza in the context of the currently developed idea of compatibilism and selected arguments used by compatibilists and libertarian understanding of free will. The purpose of the article was to show the possibility of interpretation of Spinoza’s philosophy of freedom from the perspective of compatibilism and to indicate the reasons, why such a comparison will remain debatable. The problem analysis presented in the text is also supposed to prompt us to consider, whether in the ongoing renaissance involving the problem of the existence of free will in the context of determinism there is still place for classical attempts to solve the problem, which undoubtedly is the pantheistic philosophy of Spinoza.

W artykule podjęto próbę ukazania filozoficznych zależności idei wolności w filozofii Barucha Spinozy w kontekście współcześnie rozwijanej idei kompatybilizmu i wybranych argumentów stosowanych przez kompatybilistów oraz libertariańskiego rozumienia wolnej woli. Celem było ukazanie możliwości interpretacji filozofii wolności Spinozy z perspektywy kompatybilizmu oraz wskazanie powodów, dla których takie porównanie jest dyskusyjne. Przedstawiona w opracowaniu analiza problemowa ma również skłaniać do podjęcia namysłu nad tym, czy w trwającym renesansie obejmującym problem istnienia wolnej woli w kontekście determinizmu można odnaleźć miejsce dla klasycznych prób rozwiązań problemu, jakie niewątpliwie stanowi panteistyczna filozofia Spinozy.

Obwohl die klassische Form des Determinismus aufgrund der Rechtfertigung der These des physischen Indeterminismus gegenwärtig einen Rückschritt erleben kann, wird das deterministische Modell der Beschreibung von Phänomenen im Kontext der wissenschaftlichen Methodologie nicht abgewertet. Die gegenwärtig auftretenden Disziplinformen der Determinismen stellen jedoch kein eindeutiges, einheitliches, universelles, absolutes und direkt bestimmendes Modell dar, das der klassischen Auffassung des Determinismus eigen ist. Im Zusammenhang mit den Überlegungen zur Freiheit veranlasst dies zu Überlegungen über den Umfang moderner deterministischer Erklärungen und darüber, ob moderne kompatibilistische Erklärungen gegenüber uneinheitlichen Determinismen legitim bleiben. Ein Nachdenken über die Kategorie der Determination wird dabei helfen, die Angemessenheit u. a. der Philosophie von Nicolai Hartmann vor dem Hintergrund des modernen Freiheitsstreits zu beurteilen. Die in der Ontologie des realen Daseins verwurzelte These des determinativen Pluralismus weist auf den axiologischen Kontext hin, der für die Erklärung des Problems der Freiheit unerlässlich ist und geht über den nicht selten verengten Rahmen des Problems hinaus.

 While the classical form of determinism seems to be in regress as the thesis of physical indeterminism has now been justified, the deterministic model of scientific description of phenomena has not been devalued in science methodologies. However, the present disciplinary forms of determinisms do not represent an unambiguous, uniform, universal, absolute and directly determining pattern, appropriately typical for the classical concept of determinism. In the context of deliberations on the issue of freedom, that fact prompts thinking on the scope of contemporary deterministic elucidations as well as queries whether contemporary compatibilist explanations are still valid with regard to incoherent determinisms. Examining the category of determination will help, among others, to assess the adequacy of Nicolai Hartmann’s philosophy against the background of the on-going dispute over freedom. The thesis of determinative pluralism, rooted in the ontology of the real being, points to the axiological context as indispensable for explaining the problem of freedom, as it is going beyond its often narrowed framework.

Choć klasyczna forma determinizmu przeżywać może współcześnie regres ze względu na uzasadnienie tezy fizycznego indeterminizmu, deterministyczny model opisywania zjawisk nie ulega dewaluacji w kontekście metodologii nauk. Występujące współcześnie dyscyplinarne formy determinizmów nie przedstawiają jednak jednoznacznego, jednolitego, powszechnego, bezwzględnego i bezpośrednio determinującego modelu, właściwego klasycznemu ujęciu determinizmu. W kontekście rozważań nad wolnością skłania to do refleksji nad zakresem współczesnych wyjaśnień deterministycznych oraz tego, czy współczesne wyjaśnienia kompatybilistyczne pozostają zasadne względem niejednolitych determinizmów. Namysł nad kategorią determinacji pomoże ocenić adekwatność m.in. filozofii Nicolaia Hartmanna na tle współczesnego sporu o wolność. Zakorzeniona w ontologii bytu realnego teza pluralizmu determinacyjnego wskazuje kontekst aksjologiczny jako nieodzowny dla wyjaśnienia problemu wolności, wykraczając poza nierzadko zawężane ramy problemu.
