The article concerns the training of empathy as part of medical education. Empathy is a theoretical construct that does not have a clear definition. Literature generally draws attention to two basic components of empathy: emotional – the ability to experience emotions of another person, and cognitive – associated with the ability to adopt the perspective of other people. The results confirm that higher levels of physician empathy are associated with benefits for the doctor-patient relationship and to the processof treatment. The article discusses the results of studies on the relationships among empathy, the quality of the doctor-patient relationship, and medical education. Empathy training proposals are later presented and discussed.

Recognizing and responding to physical and psychological violence against children are extremely important skills for healthcare professionals. The aim of the article is to describe both the content of medical education related to violence against children and students’ beliefs about their preparation in terms of knowledge and skills necessary in cases of suspected violence against children. The results of the research conducted indicate that students know the rules for recognizing violence used against children, but they do not know how to deal with suspected violence and the need to report it to the appropriate authorities.
The National Mental Health Care Program in Poland for 2017–2022 increases the role of community psychiatry in psychiatric care. This requires adequate changes in teaching curriculum for universities in Poland. The primary aim of presented study was to assess the medical students’ opinion and their state of knowledge about community psychiatry. Students of medical fields of studies (mostly medicine and nursing) and psychology (N=171) from different universities in Poland were tested. Community psychiatry was found as a valid alternative to conventional form of psychiatric care by majority of students however they were not able to define it accurately. Students also believed that the university courses should include details about community psychiatry especially in regards to its practical aspects.

Cooperation between the pharmaceutical industry and medical doctors is both necessary and inevitable. As part of the medical community, medical students are likely to have developed specific views as to its benefits and risks. The article is part of a series of articles presenting selected results of nine focus group interviews from three cities (Warsaw, Kraków, and Gdańsk). The study used social constructivism as a theoretical framework, and thematic analysis was performed. In their group discussions, the students drew links between cooperation’s perceived benefits and risks. Despite the associated risks, most medical students perceive benefits obtained from the pharmaceutical industry as attractive. Better education about social, psychological issues (manipulation techniques) and the conflict of interest is needed in medical schools.
The study aimed to assess the level of knowledge and usage of potentially stigmatizing anatomical terms among medical students. Material and methods The pilot study was conducted in May 2025 using an anonymous questionnaire among 72 medical students. The data were analyzed using Excel and PAST. Results The analysis revealed that a significant proportion of respondents used nonrecommended terminology or were familiar only with negatively connoted terms. No statistically significant differences were found in terminology usage between loweryear and upper-year students. Awareness that features such as a single palmar crease or epicanthal fold may also occur in individuals with a normal karyotype was limited. Conclusions The findings indicate the need to incorporate topics related to language awareness and inclusive medical terminology into medical education. It seems essential to review teaching materials and increase academic staff engagement in promoting neutral language. The study reveals a gap in medical education concerning the description of anatomical features.

Celem badania była ocena stopnia znajomości i stosowania potencjalnie stygmatyzujących terminów anatomicznych przez studentów kierunku lekarskiego. Materiał i metody Badanie pilotażowe przeprowadzono w formie anonimowej ankiety wśród 72 studentów kierunku lekarskiego w maju 2025 roku.
Medical Faculties or Medical Academies? Czechoslovak Plans and Discussions in the 1950sIn post-war Czechoslovakia, the re-organisation of public health care was closely linked to problems and new challenges in organising the academic education in medicine and medical science. Reforms in this area were seen as one of the basic starting points of health care reforms whose aim was to improve the health care and health of the population. Alongside elements such as the nationalisation of health care system, the system at this time focused not only on curative but also preventive medicine and hygiene. Similar trends were at that time in evidence in other countries of the then forming Soviet Bloc.In the early 1950s, medical faculties were in some countries of the Soviet Bloc (Poland, Hungary) removed from the structure of traditional universities and transformed into medical academies. These medical academies were supposed to take over the existing functions of academic faculties of medicine and provide teaching, research, and curative medicine, but newly also preventive care. In other countries (Czechoslovakia, GDR), medical faculties remained part of both the traditional and newly established universities, though their transformation into medical academies had also been discussed. The contribution includes: 1. a brief description of the network of academic medical education in 1945–1950s in countries of the Soviet Bloc (Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, GRD, Poland, and Hungary); 2. analysis of reasons why in Czechoslovakia the transformation of faculties into academies was not carried out, while in other countries it was. These reasons include references to the strength of tradition, factual arguments, or ideologically based argumentation pointing to “Soviet models”.
Inne skutki wynikają z zanieczyszczenia powietrza będącego efektem emisji z pojazdów w postaci mieszaniny tlenków węgla, obejmującej tlenek węgla, dwutlenek azotu i cząstki stałe. W większości miast świata obserwujemy na ulicach niebezpiecznym poziom zanieczyszczeń, a śmierć jednego dziecka w Wielkiej Brytanii oficjalnie przypisano zanieczyszczeniu powietrza (BBC 2020).

A new field of biomedical ethics is opening up, concerning what should be done to reduce the direct and indirect impacts of greenhouse gas emissions on human health. Some of these impacts could be described as 'direct', in the form of fatalities and illnesses due to the increasingly frequent heatwaves in many countries of recent years, ascribable to anthropogenic climate change. Other impacts are mediated through the air pollution that results from emissions from vehicles in the form of a cocktail of carbon oxides including carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and particulates. Most of the world's cities have streets with unsafe pollution levels, and one child's death in Britain has been officially ascribed to air pollution (BBC 2020). This presentation aims to validate the above claims about the impacts of emissions on health, and to suggest remedies. The early phasing out of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines is the ultimate remedy for the latter set of impacts, while the urgent replacement of energy generated from fossil-fuel sources with renewable energy is the best way to remediate the former set. More immediate remedies for air pollution include restricting the use of roads and streets in urbanised areas by vehicles to bicycles and light vehicles with small engines. Medical and nursing education should include the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary conditions resulting from increased levels of carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides and particulates. Medical and nursing practice should focus on the early identification of vulnerable adults and children at risk from air pollution, and warnings against walking, running or cycling along the most polluted thoroughfares.

A thorough theoretical and practical preparation is crucial in the education of medical professionals. Present-day knowledge recipients expect a broad range of multimedia and interactive resources in the consumed media. The article discusses examples of such implementations for the nationwide education of a pharmacy technician, massage technician, medical sterilization technician, and occupational therapy technician. These examples were created for the Integrated Education Platform of the Ministry of Education and Science in Poland, as part of an EU-funded project. This study delineates the characteristics of e-materials, such as instructional and educational videos, film sequences, scenario-based learning games, interactive documentation, 3D animations, simulators and virtual tours. We prepared a learner benefit analysis based on the e-materials discussed. We aimed to formulate recommendations and guidelines for designing and developing multimedia and interactive resources, paying special attention to educational values and content for the medical industry. Regardless of the type of multimedia, profession and content, materials should prioritize realism, interactivity and detailed presentation of the situations/cases. The same multimedia rarely achieve different learning objectives and learning outcomes. To design and produce high-quality multimedia, it is necessary to know their characteristics and to work with a team of subject matter experts experienced in e-learning development.
