This paper presents Polish consumers’ concerns about food-related hazards and methods used to reduce them. The research sample comprised 1075 respondents from the northeastern part of Poland. Analyses confirm that consumers are aware of chemical compounds in meat and are concerned about their harmful effects. They are able to assess the likelihood and seriousness of these effects and identify measures to reduce their exposure to risk. The most important risk-reducing strategies include “quality assurance” and “product appearance”. It can also be concluded that the perception of risk depends on the demographic characteristics of the respondents, because different groups within society perceive and respond to risk differently.

The solution of ecological problems requires the contribution of international organizations, national governments, civil organizations, companies, academic researchers, and individuals. Individuals have several opportunities to lower their own environment use; one form of it is energy conserving behaviour. Household energy use is a relevant question because producing energy burdens the environment. Households can conserve water, gas and electricity in many ways but every behaviour requires some kind of sacrifices (inconvenience, money, etc.). According to international consumer researches, the motivations of energy-conserving behaviour can save money, together with environmental/moral considerations. Positive environmental attitudes, beliefs and values influence energy-saving behaviour favourably. According to our research, the Hungarian population has positive general environmental attitudes, and can be divided into five clusters: Unheeding townspeople, Environment sensitive people, Distance-keeper inquirers, Doubters, and Responsibility-taker countrymen. People fundamentally try to save energy and expect it from family members, too. The main motivations are money saving and inner driving forces, but in the third place there is environment protection as energy conserving motivation. However, we have some doubts in connection with this result because respondents definitely want to meet some imaginary requirements, and this intention influences the answers. The Hungarian people are not environmentally conscious in their purchases, but their energy conserving behaviour is widespread. In demographics gender, age and education have a weak or possibly a medium effect, and property status and residence have a strongly significant influence. Positive attitudes increase while negative attitudes decrease the possibilities of such activities.

The objective of the presented paper is the exploration of compulsive buying, which is on the contrary to previous research understood as a function of various personal goals, rather than a result of psychological tension. Behavioural research has paid only marginal attention to the goal-basis of the consumer behaviour. Research of consumers as goal-oriented individuals could contribute to understand the question about the impact of personal goals on the process of buying behaviour. The research suggests that external goals such as financial success or attractive appearance are positively correlated with compulsive buying. On the other hand, internal goals, based on self-acceptance or links to community have a negative impact on compulsive buying. The findings indicate the need of further research in compulsive buying and could contribute to revealing the motives in compulsive buying.

The premature death of a breadwinner, serious injuries or an insufficient level of income during retirement can decrease the living standard of households substantially. Life insurance represents a tool for managing such kinds of uncertainties. However, individuals do not adequately consider this need for security. Papers focusing on factors determining life-related insurance consumption identified many variations in the effect of these factors. The reasons are not clear, but one of the explanations is the aggregated nature of life insurance without focus on the type of covered risks. Based on survey data, we confirm the differences in the determinants of various risks covered by life insurance. In the general life insurance model, we confirmed the following as significant determinants: gender, head of household status, combination of marital status and dependent children, saving behaviour and employment status. In the private pension insurance coverage, significant determinants are age, education, saving behaviour and employment status. The willingness to buy accident cover with life insurance is determined by the saving behaviour and employment status. Marginal effect has the status of head of household.

Similar to other developed countries, the Czech Republic implements socioeconomic policies aimed at minimizing smoking. The objective of this research is to provide evidence of the real impact of increasing cigarette taxes on cigarette consumption and its structure in the Czech Republic. The unique database consisting of manufacturers’ subscribed cigarette stamps and all posted brand prices were collected by the authors over the past two decades and was utilized in the analysis. The analysis shows that a continuous rise in cigarette market prices does not motivate consumers to prefer low price brands or to reduce cigarette consumption. The research provides evidence that smokers did not minimize smoking but even spent more money on cigarettes, preferring more expensive brands or staying loyal to a favoured one. This implies necessary changes in the market basket of the smokers’ households.

In today’s markets, companies have greatly shifted their focus towards customers as the entities creating the demand for companies’ products and sources of the revenues. The consumers shape and influence the current market trends with their desires and preferences; this requires reassessing and reshaping the offers and communications from companies. Most successful offer adjustments are built on relevant research and formed by consumer insights, often based on patterns of content consumption. The main aim of this article is to identify digital video marketing trends by combining two essential pillars: the data management possibilities related to the digital environment and the evolution of media consumption habits of consumers. The authors examine secondary data which is precisely selected, collected and shaped according to the research design requirements from available Consumer Barometer Research provided and processed by Google. Identification of the six most significant digital video trends to shape digital marketing in the following years can be considered the core of the authors’ research. The results are centred on innovation progress and consumers’ consumption habits and aim to outline possible approaches to digital video production and delivery to target groups for several future years.

Social media influencers are winning over the Internet with their outstanding work and presence. Their opinions have a powerful impact on people, especially on young generation. We can mark them as a modern phenomenon that has seen a huge increase in cooperation with marketing agencies over recent years. More and more people are following such influencers so that they do not miss out on their content. Brands flock to such influencers for mentions, reviews and recommendations. Even though influencer marketing is a relatively new strategy, it continues to be a viable solution for marketers who are willing to think outside the box while building relationships with their target market. The aim of the study is to offer a comprehensive reflection on influencer marketing opportunities and determine the impact of influencers on consumer behaviour of Generations Y and Z. We wanted to find out whether influencers, who promote products, can attract potential customers and encourage them for purchase, as well as find differences between the given consumer generations. In order to meet the objectives of the study, own research was conducted (459 respondents from the Slovak Republic belonging to Generations Y and Z were involved in the inquiry). The research findings confirm that there are significant differences between the above-mentioned consumer generations in the area of impact of influencers on consumer behaviour, which leads to different marketing opportunities. For statistical processing of the results, we used the Kruskal-Wallis Test, Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test, Fisher’s Exact Test and Dunn’s Test of Contrasts.

The article briefly characterizes psychological impact of money existence in mentally regulated behaviour. The paper indicates explicit opinions on the effect of money on personality, especially on their moral characteristics. Within frequent social macro-changes of Slovak citizens, certainty-uncertainty is characterized as a personality feature. The author presents a more detailed description of the trust-distrust phenomenon, its determinants and influences on behaviour. He discusses experiences from international psychological research studies (mainly Austria). The explanation of euro currency perception (so called euro illusion, selective error) indicates consequences on consumer behaviour. Finally some Slovak peculiarities are mentioned.

There have been many changes in internal trade during last ten years. Businessmen make use of not only well known instruments as it is obvious in the environment of strong competition. They try to diversify business activities to sales programmes in order to meet the customer's needs regarding the quality, ethics and information transfer. Customers got used to a convenient offer of consumer goods and adjust their behaviour accordingly to it. The retailers approach this phenomenon in different ways depending on their ability to understand and make advantage of these behaviour changes. This contribution was processed within the Research Project of MSM 6046070906 'The economics of Czech agricultural resources and then effective use within multifunctional systems of agriculture and food', Faculty of Economics and Management, Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague.
