The author proposes to create a map of the city of Poznań which could present the milieu of life activities and practices of Konstanty Troczyński (1906–1942), who was a Polish literary scholar from Poznań. The university is considered as a very important place on this map and remains the main subject of the text. It is seen from a historical and cultural perspective. The author’s attitude is based on the assumption that investigation of modern Polish literary studies history requires both exploring biographies of particular scholars as well as places where new ideas were born.
Foreigners who are learning the Polish language are surrounded by cultural elements, such as graphics, passwords and slogans. The paper presents the advantages of using this type of materials as an incentive to learn Polish as a foreign language and chosen methods of using graphics, passwords and slogans to practise linguistic skills at different levels of teaching.
Geoinformation Science in the twenty-first century has become an integral part of our lives. GPS navigation, exploration of cities via Street View or GeoTagging are just a few examples of modern cartography. In China, access to spatial data as well as to media reports is a subject to government control. Presented maps thus reflect a vision of the world seen through the eyes of the CCP. New law not only gives great opportunities for development of Chinese GIS, but also outlines the borders of the country, illustrating the political aspirations of the Middle Kingdom.
Reflections on the semiotics of a map conceived as a text – within the context of the topography of Drohobycz/Drohobych and the oeuvre of Bruno Schulz.
Vignettes of Constantinople are on four world maps of the Beatus of Liébana (c. 730- 798): 1) the Beatus map of Saint-Sever (Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, Ms. Lat. 8878, fol. 45bisv-45terr), 2) the Beatus map of Osma (Burgo de Osma, Archivo de la Catedral, Cod. 1, fol. 34v-35r), 3) the Beatus map of Navarra (Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, Nouv. acq. lat. 1366, fol. 24v-25r.), and 4) the Beatus map of Arroyo (Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, Nouv. acq. lat. 2290, fol. 13v-14r). These vignettes are with the period of origin of each map closely connected. In other words, geography, history and political theology are here intimately linked. The vignettes analyzed of the word maps of Beatus illustrate changes in the approach to the question of the role and significance of Constantinople in the eyes of the Latins in the period from 1050 to 1250. These vignettes were certain schemes, that were designed especially for the people of that time and were understood by them. The vignettes were not a universal system, so every mapmaker adorned them with labels in order to avoid ambiguities in the identification of the respective cities. These vignettes were, however, understandable in the context of a specific map, when the map was analyzed against the then geopolitical and theological background. In consequence of this the vignettes of Constantinople on four world maps of the Beatus of Liébana appears as a particular image of the relations between the Latins and the Greeks.
The reading, analysis and interpretation of the contour line picture is causing pupils quite a lot of problems. They result above all from lack of abilities of getting the third dimension out of the two-dimensional plain. On the one side different perceptual predisposition of pupils affects such a state of affairs, on the other – insufficient methodological base, mainly in the form of interesting, attractive, inspiring and modern teaching tools. SandBOX seems to be a reply to this demand. SandBOX is a multimedia tool for generating and showing the picture of colorful map-contour line on the freely formed, interactive model of sand. The user immediately is seeing the threedimensional space created by himself in the form of colorful hypsometric map. This device can easily help understand the process of mapping and reading information about the terrain on the hypsometric map.

Czytanie, analiza i interpretacja rysunku poziomicowego nastręcza uczniom sporo trudności. Wynikają one przede wszystkim z braku umiejętności widzenia, a raczej wydobycia trzeciego wymiaru z płaszczyzny dwuwymiarowej. Tę zdolność trudno jednak rozwinąć bez zaangażowania wyobraźni przestrzennej, którą nie wszyscy uczniowie mają opanowaną w zadawalającym stopniu. Na taki stan rzeczy z jednej strony wpływa różna predyspozycja percepcyjna uczniów (czynniki wewnętrzne), a z drugiej – niedostateczne zaplecze metodyczne, m.in. w postaci ciekawych, inspirujących, atrakcyjnych i nowoczesnych pomocy dydaktycznych (czynniki zewnętrzne).
Interactive online maps enable new perspectives and allow for multi-dimensional interaction with source data, becoming – thanks to that – an intuitive analytical resource for the purpose of exploring relations between the information, which were obscured up to this moment. Visualization of data in the form of interactive maps is becoming not only an attractive means for presenting the knowledge – e.g., in the form of diagrams, tables, and images – but, first and foremost, provides the user with a possibility to perform a more profound analysis of historical phenomena. Visualizations of this kind, revealing unnoticed relations and patterns, provoke new questions and prompt historians to search for the answers. Newly created interactive historical maps can become a starting point to formulate new representations of past phenomena and processes. They can also serve to organize the knowledge and to integrate source materials of different sorts. As they link various forms of data (linguistic, visual, geographical), they form an analytical tool used to interpret historical processes and phenomena that have been of interest, but also to explore new ones.

W artykule zaprezentowane zostały możliwości wykorzystania anamorfoz powierzchni w nauczaniu geografii w gimnazjach i szkołach ponadgimnazjalnych.

An issue discussed in the article is value-by-area cartogram, one of the cartographic presentation forms. It is a unique way of presenting statistical data, in which the surface of the individual spatial units is proportional to the value of the phenomenon. Due to its specificity, value-by-area cartogram is an interesting way of graphical representation of phenomena, in particular the demographic and economic problems of the world. The article presents the possibility of using this kind of cartogram in teaching geography in secondary and high schools.
This article examines Surrealism as an artistic movement that, although formally concluded by the 1960s, continues to resonate within contemporary artistic discourse, inspiring both creators and scholars. The discussion foregrounds the paradoxical nature of Surrealism-historically closed yet persistently alive and subject to ongoing redefinitions. Surrealism is approached not merely as a movement but as a creative attitude and a coherent aesthetic grounded in anti-conformism, the transgression of rational boundaries, and the pursuit of an “elsewhere” of existence. Particular attention is devoted to André Breton’s Manifesto of Surrealism and to surrealist practices ranging from automatic writing and dream exploration to experiments with hypnosis and hallucinations, as well as real and imaginary journeys aimed at constructing new aesthetic and social spaces. The article also highlights the contributions of women artists associated with the movement, challenging the stereotypical perception of Surrealism as a male domain and underscoring their role in shaping surrealist imagination. Finally, the text emphasizes the reception and reinterpretation of Surrealism in contemporary Polish literature and poetry, where surrealist strategies-both in imagery and linguistic experimentation-remain a vital source of inspiration. The author argues that Surrealism, as an ambiguous, fluid, and open formation, enables the emergence of ever-new artistic and interpretive configurations, functioning as a critical tool against entrenched aesthetic, social, and geopolitical orders.

The aim of the research paper is to make use of the map metaphor from Jean Baudrillard’s Simulacra and Simulation as a starting point for the new metaphysics that is congruent with the poetics of postmodernism. The main idea here is to neglect a distinction between epistemology and ontology and to choose a philosophical perspective that breaks through some binary oppositions such as object-subject, fact-fiction, real-virtual etc. The proposed way to do so is to connect the anthropology of map with the philosophy of the other and put them together with the postmodern idea of the sign.
The present article follows some arguments that define East Central Europe on the fundament of a carefully selected choice of synthetically relevant literature, which shaped, profiled, and modified the discussion on the spatial-historical concept of East Central Europe in the last twenty-five years in English and German language. The article’s structure has the following three sections: European Patterns and Differentiated Functions (Wandycz), Expanding Concepts and Decentralized Perspectives: The Turn of theMillennia (Longworth, Johnson, Bideleux/ Jeffries, Niederhauser, Roth), Common Patterns and Linking Memory: Two Recent Examples (Puttkamer, Bahlcke/Rhodewald/Wünsch). With the intention to correspond to the present volume’s fundamental concept and main task, the article and its summary discuss whether there happened a shift from appropriation to rivalry in historiographical operationalization of the term “East Central Europe” in the last decades.

Wśród najbardziej znanych możemy wymienić, m.in. prace Cykl literacki w Polsce (2001), Cykl i powieść (2004), Semiotyka cyklu. Cykl w muzyce, plastyce i literaturze (2005), Cykle i cykliczność. Prace dedykowane pani profesor Krystynie Jakowskiej (2010).
The article concerns the accounting block that once belonged to the local carpenter named Gajk (Gaÿk) who lived in Seenwalde (Piasutno). The finding of the receipt book, that has become the author’s property, gave the opportunity to learn more about the lives of the old inhabitants of Piasutno. Thanks to the book, one can, in a way, follow through both their names and some aspects of their everyday lives, concerning various pecuniary liabilities that they were once subjected to. The receipt book consists of 49 bills, made out before 1940. All the receipts were filled with the indelible pencil and have remained in a perfect shape till now. The receipt book was found in the attic of the old house that used to belong to Gajk (Gaÿk). It had been hidden behind one of the roof rafters for 62 years. The tapes of liabilities, the number of payments year by year and the shortened information about selected taxpayers’ fates were shown in the form of tables. Moreover, the article presents the copy of the Seenwalde map from 1945. Despite the number of imponderables, the found receipt book testifies to the way of living of East Prussia inhabitants during the time it was the part of Germany.
The aim of this article is the analysis of discourse on the region from the semiotic perspective and using the theory of marketing. We assume that the region is established and experienced by its representations. We consider these representations as a maps of meanings and simultaneously as a maps of social-cultural reality. We are going to examine what kind of sign systems organized according to certain codes consists the sum of the maps constituting the semiotic map of Małopolska. Relating to the Stuart Hall’s theory of encoding and decoding we aim to answer the following questions: - which of these codes are dominating? - if it is possible to distinguish the oppositional codes? - how the semiotic map of the region is influenced by the politics of representation? - which values are promoted by the logo of Małopolska and by the promotional companies of the region?

Jakie wartości komunikuje logo Małopolski i promujące ją kampanie?
Among the graphic representations found in the books are maps. One type of print in which they also appear are religious schematisms (directories). Schematisms (lat. schematismus, elenchus, catalogue) are official lists of the clergy of a particular ecclesiastical administration unit (diocese, religious province). Despite the popularity that religious directories gained in the first half of the nineteenth century, it is only from the second to third decade of the twentieth century that we can speak of the maps included in them. In order to show the variety of representations, this article discusses some of the maps from religious schematisms stored in one of the largest collections of this type of prints in Europe, and thus in the world, namely in the University Library of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (BU KUL). The subject of the analysis was cartographic representations, their content, and forms of their production on the example of religious prints from the region of Central and Eastern Europe.

The issue under discussion concerns the methodological issues pertaining to the cognitive and scientific values of an entry in a dialect dictionary, viewed from the point of view of practical usefulness of dialectal, regional and local dictionaries and their practicality in a dialogue between generations and in the region’s promotion. The essence of the dictionary entry is the number and arrangement of its components, their representativeness and ability to exert influence; the dictionary contains also maps and illustrations, until recently reserved for other kinds of publications. In general, maps and illustrations should be part of an entry, providing geographic information, allowing at the same time to locate a lexeme in a region’s dialect structure and to arrive at its multifaceted visualisations. Keeping in mind its practicality, an entry should be provided with contextual information, using standardised and uniform spelling; it should also include the phonetic, morphological and syntactic peculiarities of a regional dialect. The qualifiers should point to the socially-determined status of a lexeme and form the basis for an entry’s interpretation in its chronological, social, cultural and civilisation-related dimensions.
